49. Love LZ, but Plant has needlessly lengthened many songs that would
have been better left completed at least one minute before they were.

13. The thing is, we LZ haters are both polite and right.
And we have a lovely trade-up offer for you: your entire LZ collection (yes, even the 8-tracks) for this lovely Martin Denny recording:

It features wonderful music, and just like LZ, humans making faux animal sounds. What an easy, elegant upward journey! You'll hardly notice the change, but your life will be better, you'll be more popular, you'll have more friends, and you won't barge in on threads telling the truth about...what were their names? You won't even care anymore! You're welcome!

31. Actually, there would be no "second-tier rock groups"...
...if it weren't for first-tier rock groups like Zeppelin and a small handful of others from the '60s and '70s. You (and this is just my opinion, mind you) don't know that you're talking about, obviously.

21. clearly those LZ bashing are just jealous of their success
Seriously - this band has stood the test of time for some reason, clearly not bashed on the jealous bashing of a few people.

And if all you think is it's just Robert Plant wailing then obviously you've never really listen to all of the albums but just the obnoxious few that are still played on the radio time and time again. (Hell, have you heard the last album out by Robert Plant - quite the shocker).

This band hasn't put out a new album since 1980 and they still one of the legendary bands that can host a 1-time concert and get millions of people submitting requests for the 25k tickets available for their concert. Getting hit by lightening might actually be more likely to happen then to score tickets for this one time event.

And what I respect most about LZ is that they had such respect for the entity of Led Zeppelin that when John Bonham died he was not replaced by some other drummer (yes, I'm looking at you Townsend and Daltry). Sure, critics will point out the Page Plant works of the mid-90s but those 2 did not want to do a Zeppelin reunion and if they brought Jones it, that's what it would have been. And if that 2-3 years had been unsuccessful then what would happen to the legend of Led Zeppelin.

Bash Led Zeppelin all you want but let's face it - they are usually rated as one of the top 5 bands of all time (hell, I'll give credit to the Beatles, they can't compete with them). Sure, you're annoyed by Plant's wailing, but lets face it - if it were not for Robert Plant, it would not be the legendary band that it is today. And for that matter, if it wasn't for Page or Jones or Bonham you could say the same exact thing. The 4 of them had such impact on the band that when one was gone the band chose not to go forward. If only for the son of John Bonham can Led Zeppelin truly exist again

26. Well, I don't, for one...
As they're probably the most significant rock band ever. Certainly the most influential. One could argue Elvis, the Beatles and Dylan, in terms of musicians they influenced, but in terms of a fully functioning rock band? NO. No-one comes close to Zeppelin. The Stones, the Who? I love them both, but NO! None of the hard, heavy rock of the last 30 years would be imaginable without Zeppelin doing it first and best, from Jane's Addiction and Pearl Jam to Guns 'n' Roses and Radiohead. To go back to another era: Roxy Music and Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" phase owed a tremendous amount to Zeppelin. Oh yeah: Tull and Deep Purple. Z.Z. Top, Aerosmith. Etc. Etc. Ad fuckin' infinitum...

Zeppelin's fourth and sixth albums are often cited as their best. Fine. But anyone who listens to their fifth or their seventh albums ("Houses of the Holy" and "Presence") will hear music a full generation ahead of its time.

There was genius at work in that band, full time. Anyone who doesn't get that doesn't understand rock 'n' roll, as far as I'm concerned.

bear out.....I saw em four times. They were horrible three of those times. Once was the worst example of rock adn roll over indulgence by both band and fans that I have ever seen.

Once in Seattle,(Physical grafitti) they were freaking incredible. First time for lazers. that show was the heat.

35. give me a fucking break.
Stones basically created the blues rock band synthesis, not that there weren't other contenders. Stones were also punk, before punk existed, by a decade or so. They also wrote monster classic rock songs early in the history of rock.

Led Zep did not invent metal, but did practice it pretty well. The idea that they were more important than the Stones is extraordinarily hilarious. What exactly did Led Zep create that influenced anybody?

Their most interesting ideas were followed by no one else in metal.

Metal itself is a pretty dumb genre of rock. IMHO.
