Poll question: Best 60's Rock Band not called The Beatles
Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 08:36 PM by Va Lefty
I also excluded Led Zeppelin. Although they released their first album in 1969, the bulk of their work came out in early seventies.

3. Hmmm...
To the pre-pubescent and early adolescent I was, there were no other bands besides the Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and slightly later, the Partridge Family. So sue me. I didn't know any better. :P

42. Your use of "retarded" is... let's say unthoughtful.
Beach Boys sing great harmony - I'll give them that.

Wonderful barbershop quartet. Not a great band.

28. I voted Beach Boys, but the Byrds are easily next
I like all the Dylan songs by the Byrds.

And musically, the Beach Boys and The Byrds were more interesting to me than the Who, who were interesting, but not as good as the other guys, though they were prolific and loud.

45. The Kinks
Astonishingly underrated act. They were literate, had great pop sense, and practically invented the pop metal power riff.

The Byrds were a close second. No Byrds, no 1980s jangle pop like the dBs, REM, Winter Hours, Connells, Let's Active, Bangles, etc.

Velvets should have been on the list, too. I first litened to the "banana album" back in 1989 or so, and I was stunned. It could have been on college radio at that time. You can hear its influence in U2, Echo & the Bunnymen, Siouxsie, and every other post-punk band.
