I found out today I will become a Grandmother, sort of.
About 15 years ago when I lived in Austin I shared a house with 2 other people.

We found a teenage girl who has been kicked out of her house because she was gay, she was 14 years old and living on the streets.

Anyway we took her in and she lived with us for her high school years and college at UT.

She is having a baby with her partner, they are very happy.

So it looks like I will be a Grandmother now, wow I never thought I would say this.

2. Congratulations!
This is just one more reason why you're an amazing person. It's a good thing that you did. And I'm very glad that you're keeping her, and now her partner and child, in your family.

3. She was the second child we raise, the kids kept us busy.
She turned out very well, we are very proud of her.

Her birth family still will not have anything to do with her, I will never understand that.

She wants to have two children so I will be a Grandmother twice.

She will be here on Thanksgiving with her partner and the father of the baby.

Next year at this time I will be a Grandmother.

5. Please
post some pictures at some point. I'm sure I am not the only one who wants a chance to say "Aaaawwww..." and smile like a fool at sweet family pictures. :7

I've been disowned by everyone except my mom, and we barely talk. I'm not likely to ever visit her again and she'll certainly never travel to visit me. So stories like yours really tear at my heart in a very good way.

8. No. Not at all.
One's nominally Catholic, and the other is nominally Jewish, and I know far more about both religions than either of them. Go figure.

They're just old fashioned bigots. :(

9. I am not close to my birth family either.
My father is living with us now due to his recent heart problems, we are getting to know each other now.

It is never to late, I never thought I would be talking with my father.

I made my own family, I don't miss my birth family at all.

When I have some baby pictures I will post them, but that will be at least 6 months from now.

10. She had given up trying on her birth family.
She is now almost 34 now and is a lawyer, her partner is also.

They are set for a family now, and the father is a great guy.

He is gay also and their best friend.

They are all excited about the baby.

12. Is the show on LOGO.
If it is I will check it out.

I am really happy about the baby, I have been borrowing two small kids who live down the street.

I will be a fun Grandma.

15. Thank you Shine.
She was a great kid.

I could never understand how someone could kick their kid out of the house to live on the streets.

18. We had to deal with her birth parents more then once.
They kicked her out but tried to block us from keeping her, but we had a better lawyer.

They tried to put her in a church run boarding school, to cure her from being gay.

She ran away from the school, we found her living in a old car.

They tried to get her until she turned 18, the bastards.

21. We told her she was safe, her family would never get her back.
She became a lawyer because of this, to help kids.

I am very, very proud of her, she will make a great Mom.

20. Congratulations - that's awesome!
:D  I'll never understand how people could be so cruel as to kick their own child out onto the streets for being gay, but then I suppose there are a lot of things I'll never understand. And she is very lucky to have encountered you. I wish you, her, her partner and their child all the happiness in the world! :grouphug:
