Anybody remember Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Ponys?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=q5C710lnPfQ

You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me
Wo-oh

You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

1. I love that song
it usually goes over well when I sing it at karaoke. (In fact, I won a contest w/ it.)

10. Oh man- I bet you do a great job on that
I loved her so much in the 70s. I was just thinking about her a lot, wishing I had some of those albums on CD- like Hasten Down the Wind and Prisoner in Disguise. Great california pop on those albums, and that voice!!!

4. My dad was really into her stuff...
used to play that song all the time.

It's all right but I don't love it... I preferred my mom's Beatles & Floyd records. :)

5. Great voice
I love listening to her songs (even the Spanish ones) because of the tonal quality of her voice - thick and rich with lots of harmonics. It sounds like honey being poured into your ears.

Have you ever heard her sing with Hoyt Axton? She is a natural.

13. Yes. He wrote it. I think he also wrote
"Some of Shelley's Blues" -- do you know it?

11. this is COMPLETELY freaky
I am on a huge Linda Ronstadt streak right now. Yesterday I listened to all the videos of "Different Drum" on youtube. I have 'Blue Bayou' and 'Long Long Time' posted elsewhere.
We are in the same vortex this week I guess....

:scared:  :hi:

and yes, she is an Amazing singer, and I have always loved that song, I wish she had more folk recordings around before she went country. She pretty much started the trend of the "Spanish album" too, I think she was the first big anglo star to do one.

15. It was either during or just after her Stone Poney days
that she appeared on the Ed Sullivan show to sing that song...barefoot! It was so scandalous.

So, yeah, I guess I remember.

16. My favorite Ronstadt pic
Standing next to Gov. Brown I think that's The Eagles behind her and Jackson Browne off to far right. Looks like she might have just flashed the camera! Note her "evil" grin
