I need to come up with a catch phrase, like California Peggy, without making it seem like a ripoff
Or that thing The Magistrate does...you know, "Truly, Sir, I have seen evidence of that"...

I wouldn't feel right about saying "My dear" to everyone because, as you know, California Peggy has pretty much cornered that market, and my posts tend to attract some of the more dangerous people here anyway, you know, the ones who are either working through some heavy issues or living in denial of them (not to say that anyone reading this particular post falls into that category, of course), so...

I don't want to use something like "UP YOURS" or "You and the horse you rode in on" because some people...you know, the more sensitive ones...might see that as "confrontational."

I could say "I'm sorry, could you please repeat that?"...but that might get old really quick. Come to think of it, I'm sick of it already. Scratch that one.

Or "Your reply to my post stands as proof that if you give a monkey enough bananas, he will type something."

Or "Ask me if I GIVE a rat's ass" (might be another "too abrasive" one, though).

Or "Word to your MOTHER," but then...since I am a blonde haired, blue eyed Italian, people MIGHT pigeon-hole me as a Vanilla Ice kind of guy.

OR...I could go click-happy and put EVERYONE on "ignore" and then write a post complaining about how no one responds to my posts and you could all respond and call me a clueless bee-yatch but I wouldn't know it because I have you all on "ignore."

I'm going to have to think about this one and get back to you. Thanks in advance for your cooperation...you and the horse you rode in on!

No, wait...I thought I decided not to use that one..never mind.

2. You could call yourself The Mimic or The Morph and randomly borrow catchphrases.
"Oh Yeah!" from Koolaid, for example.

How'm I doing on my problems? ;)

You're The Observer. "Hey, I just judge people in private, not in public."

You have given yourself a catchphrase, grasshoppah. Now use it.

peggy's works because she is genuinely nice.

however a lot of other people's catchy phrases sounds phony and pretentious

15. I've never been accused of being genuinely nice...
...every now and then, someone tosses me a bone for putting in the effort to be nice, but I always sense a degree of skepticism on their part.

7. You could call everyone "butthead."
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 02:56 PM by fudge stripe cookays
But borrow Peggy's method, so it doesn't seem so harsh.

"My dear butthead..."

I like it! :D

17. Not bad...it's got a little bit of yin, and a little bit of yang...
...of course, I don't know if Peggy has one of those "high-powered law firm" kind of attorneys or a guy like Lionel Hutz from the Simpsons.

If I fail to take that into consideration, she could take me to the cleaners for stepping on the "My dear" part...

11. My dear Amerigo Vespucci,
I find originality highly overrated. Besides, if you footnote it and include Peg in your bibliography, you can use her stuff as much as you want.

Perhaps the one thing I learned in college. :)

Still ominous, but a little more direct.

I'd rather treat them like a king or queen...you know, turn on the charm...and then, when they're least expecting it, slam the lid down hard with "Have a nice DAY, assbag."

But you know, when you get right down to it, I'm here to make new friends, just like everyone else.

32. Ya think it's all about you, don'tcha, HotCrap?*
* I mean, that's what your tagline could be.

I didn't mean to imply that your OP was self-centered or that you were enjoying a little "me" time
by directing everyone's attention to your own self-aggrandizing goals while pretending to be honoring a beloved member
of the DU community (who only has written "My dear petard" ONCE, no matter how I stoop and beg),
while actually you are pulling that industrial-sized spotlight (careful not to trip on the wire!)
to face none other than yourself and pushing California Peggy right off the friggin' stage.
Sneaky little maggot, aren't you?*

*Sneaky little maggot = another suggested tagline:spank:  :hi:

33. Or: you could use that hilarious line that Gregory Peck says, in "Gaslight" when he answers
the phone:

" I'm busy and I don't know you."

He actually says that with a straight face, too, just before he hangs up.
