Question- I'm starting to question whether Doug's answer
was wrong -( yeah- I'm a trouble maker).

Looking up burgher and burgess I saw a slight difference.

The Jeopardy judges often give contestants the benefit of the doubt
and credit them the money.

Sooo- why didn't they give Doug that benefit?

22. It's because the answer specified a colonial town official as I recall.
That is appropriately a burgess, not a burgher. Same Latin root,some overlap in meaning but not equivalent.
