Is it all downhill from here?
I recently turned 21 and I fear there's nothing left for me to look forward to as far as birthdays go. Think about it:

13 years old: Bar-Mitzvah
16 years old: Drive time
18 years old: Legal adulthood and all the things that go with that
19 years old: Legal drinking in Canada (where I went to school at the time)
21 years old: Legal drinking in the USA

All that time and the time before each birthday brought me one year closer to one or more of these big dates. Now I'm on the other side of all of 'em and all I can look forward to is renting a car when I'm 25. Retirement isn't even "on the horizon" as they say on all the TV ads. Is it possible to have a happy birthday in the future, or is it all downhill from here?

3. That depends on your perspective, doesn't it?
For some people, it is indeed all downhill... and they moan and whinge about their lost youth for ages (to the chagrin of their friends & loved ones).

For others, they see the positives and it's a whole other sort of thing entirely. Mostly, anyway. :)

Good luck finding things to appreciate about your life as you get older. There are many things... it just depends on what you personally like.

:hi:

6. Thanks
I'm not worried about life in general, that's one thing. I'm just concerned about birthdays because when you're young they're so much fun. Then you get to be my parents' age and it's like "oh shit, not another birthday..." I just hate to see the annual good times slip away.

7. Oh I see... birthdays...
Well... again... perspective is everything.

For some it's a chore... but for me... well yeah there's parties to worry about, and they can be stressful, but it's all where you focus, right?

Sorry... I'm a broken record... but really that's my view on life in general. It's all about where you put your eyes. :)

4. No way.
I recently turned 30, and I'd rather be this age than your age.

Everyone's clueless at that age, ya know? By my age the people who are going to become losers and lamers (this is not a socioeconomic bash, but a cultural/educational (and I don't even mean formal education) one) have already sorted themselves from the pile.

5. It's all downhill.
After you're 21, a birthday is just a birthday.

Not for me, though. I'll be 26 next year and it'll be my golden birthday. Yay? :eyes:
