Why the HELL do men wear cologne?
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 02:19 PM by jgraz
The last thing I want to smell while I'm having my morning coffee is some stale waft of cheap-ass manfume coming off the guy sitting next to me.

Did I wake up grumpy today? I think so.

7. Yeah, this was a bit more than a "hint"
I was three seats down from him, and the fumes were so thick that I would reflexively stop inhaling.

19. Sounds like you sat next to my old roommate then...
Jesus Christ did that guy overdo the cologne. When he was getting ready for a date, I'd lock myself in my room and stay there for a few hours to let the air in the hallway clear out.

27. Was your roommate a 50-yr-old executive-type with Brylcreemed hair?
If so, that probably was him.

32. Not unless he aged rather quickly since I last saw him.
He'd be close to 30 about now if I recall correctly. He was a few years older than me, and I just turned 26. Man, I haven't talked to him in years.

15. You'd adore my hubby. He smells of soap and water and shave cream.
It's the cleanest, freshest smell that lingers lightly when I kiss him goodbye in the morning...

3. It's better than the blokes who don't bother to shower...
They smell like they've a 5 mile jaunt or, almost as bad, they were participating in an orgy and didn't clean up afterward...

10. Shit. I'd PAY for cologne that makes me smell like an orgy.
I figure that's a way to let the ladies know that you are a sophisticated and worldy man who knows how to live the "good life"

only for certain reasons

like to smell good for someone who likes to smell it on me

I don't wear it to work because I work in a hospital and it might be offensive (hopefully not personally) to a person with breathing problems or allergies.

but

grumpy?

maybe

9. Their wives or girlfriends
buy it for them and make them wear it. Or they believe the advertising hype that it makes them more attractive. Personally, I can't stand the stuff. I don't even like cologne or perfume on women.

11. I used to agree until someone gave me - Jean Paul Gaultier
Hate to sound so full of it but the truth is attracting women has been really pretty easy for me and I used to like to say that wearing cologne was for the guys who were not so lucky. One Christmas someone gave me a bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier - Le Male. You get at least 3 compliments a day wearing this stuff. Women throughout the day just stop in their tracks when you walk by and start sniffing the air. Standing in any line leaves you open to complete strangers grabbing your arm, closing their eyes and drawing as close as they can without hitting their nose on my neck (although they sometimes do) as they sniff and quiver. It's pretty phukn nice I must admit and just about impossible to give that up. So while I agree that some people are downright sick with the amount of gag inducing cologne they splash all over their most likely un-showered bodies, I have to admit that I am guilty of wearing "man-fume" and will continue to do so until they stop making that stuff.

12. First of all, I think "manfume" is my new favorite word...

And secondly, in general I agree with you, but one of my male friends used to have some kind of "body spray" (he wouldn't call it cologne) that smelled AMAZING. :loveya: I guess it depends.

Tossing all that crap on my skin is probably not very healthy. I suppose I do put it on the morning of high stress days or if I intend to be very physically active. Hell, I dunno. That's what I was taught--lol.

My Grandpa always wore it and I loved it. Should a 30 year old guy sport Old Spice?

41. Believe it or not
I'm a romance author. The hero in my latest novel is thirty six and wears Old Spice. I think it's a nice, subtle scent, as long as it's not bathed in.

24. Because it works sometimes.
Depends on what it is. If it's subtle and nice, it definitely does something for me.

Definitely not if it's "transmitting" to people 10 feet away, though.
