Collectors, what one thing would "make" your collection?
What have you been searching for far and wide to complete or add to your collection?

I figure with $6.7 billion I can fulfill all my collections.

5. I collect nesting salt & pepper shakers--these usually fit together like a puzzle
Such as these that I already have:

These are actually two sets: the rocking chair and the person are each a shaker

and many more that there aren't picc to find of them as they are pretty much one of a kind

Being able to get this one would be a great addition:

6. As a collector of signed and First Edition Cormac McCarthy novels
What would make my collection would be a signed first edition copy of BLOOD MERIDIAN.

They do exist, but they are at least $4,000. Just to get a good first edition of the novel used to cost around two or three grand, and that was three years ago when I was collecting--luckily, that was before he won a Pulitzer.

Then, a silly second would be a signed sealed copy of Madonna's SEX book from way back in the early 90s. Sealed copies of SEX used to be very sought-after items; I'm not sure if they still are or not. There are so many phony signed Madonna items out there that I decided to just concentrate on literary authors.

7. I've always wanted a copy of Sepich's "Notes on Blood Meridian".
I bet you've got a copy.

I've heard it's an amazing illumination of McCarthy's masterpiece. Certainly an incredible amount of research went into it.

Damn that it went out of print.

Amazon has a few paperback copies at $445 a pop.

I just can't justify it unless I win the lottery.

8. I've been looking for a copy of "Quest For Fire" for years.
I collect movies. I recently found a copy online. I was happy to have it after years of fruitless hunting but I found the quality objectionable. I have retained the copy but I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for a properly encoded copy.

9. A business card from Marks & Co bookstore (84 Charing Cross Road, London)
Actually, even though I collect business cards from bookstores, any sort of ephemera from there would be great!

11. Some remarkable Emerson volume I haven't discovered yet...
It's amazing...I was pondering a favorite Emerson quote, "God will not have his work made manifest by cowards," when I stumbled across your post.

This has been a year filled with cowards. People who lie, people who are afraid, people who will tell you what they want and will do absolutely nothing to get it. So I ground myself in Ralph Waldo Emerson and keep putting one foot in front of the other. I'm not a coward and I feel sad about people who take that path, but that's their decision, not mine.

My preferred volume is the Signet Classics book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0451529073

But I'd love an "ultimate" edition. This is a small paperback. I'd love a hardcover or leather bound edition.

The Signet book is significant because it includes the major essays AND selected letters / journal entries. If you haven;t read the latter, you don;t know Emerson.

EXCELLENT thread, and I recommended it.

14. I could get these

Now that Nascar is no longer going to race the regular cars and seeing as how they're obsolete the teams are selling them. This neighbor of a friend bought both cars for 20 cents on the dollar. The various Nascar teams have about 700 cars that they can't race. The Gordon car ran at Watkin's Glen.
