I think I've officially become an uncool curmudgeon
My girls want every single item in the Limited Too catalogue for Christmas and I can't find even one thing I'd pay even a dollar for. I've never seen such ugly clothes.

I have new sympathy for my mother gritting her teeth and buying us ugly 1970s clothes.

2. My girls are ten
And magnetically attracted to sleazy looking clothes made of horrible synthetics. All my suggestions of nice, 100% cotton classic LL Bean clothes get met with very dramatic eyerolls and massive sighs.

3. oh yeah, i used to buy my daughter either the smallest women's size shorts
so they'd be long enough to cover her thights and basic tshirts, some her her friends wore stuff from the ltd 2 and used to give her shit about her boring wardrobe but thankfully she didn't care and i was also lucky because she had to wear a uniform to school, that helped a alot.

4. It's not you. It's the kids these days.
Seriously, clothes and music both. All the kids these days that are willing to actually think and learn have realized that the music and clothes that are popular now suck.

At least in the 70s the music didn't suck until disco came along.

5. The clothes aren't so bad...
I mean, at least if you're an older teen. I don't mind the retro sweater-dress look... or the long shirts....

but yeah, popular music sucks. As do preteen clothes. Lucky for me I was 5 foot 4 or so by the time I was 11 or 12, so I grew out of that stuff (physically) pretty fast.

6. Yeah, the clothes aren't nearly as bad as the 70s
although the hairstyles are getting back into the silly Flock of Seagulls type crap from the 80s...

7. I am VERY tired of the 'baby doll' style
and the horrid abstract patterns. I can't see any redeeming qualities in them and most of the color combinations are awful too.

8. The triplet girl is just 7, so I can still shop for her at The Children's Place....
I have stopped going to Old Navy because everything I've seen for her is ugly or inappropriate. And her mother would have a fit if I bought some of that stuff. Happily, she has strong ideas of what is appropriate for her kids. As well, they have too much camouflage clothing, and which I won't buy for the boys. Although others do and the boys love it.

I am :scared: to see the selection that will be available for them in a few years.

Does Brooks Brothers make kids' clothing? It won't be in my price range.

9. Your mother was right. Clothes in the 70s were hideous.
And you're right today. Clothes for kids and teens are just as hideous.

But kids in any generation have never been known for their good taste. Manufacturers know that Parents will buy anything if their kids insist often and loudly enough. So they have to make it gaudy enough to attract attention, and different enough from what the last generation wore to be "cool" right now.

10. BWAHAHAHAHA!!
Ah yes, I remember talking my mother into those--remember them?--huge ass bell bottoms.

HAAARRRRR! I had a terrible time doing it, and then after she gave in I was riding my bike and got the stinkers caught in the chain and took a terrible fall!! Man, did she yell at me!

Yeah, I must be getting old too. Ugly ugly clothes!
