And NEVER confuse the two.

And, evidently, at making gin 'n tonics.
I've had several people tell me "You make the BEST gin 'n tonic!"
I pour one jigger (1 1/2 oz.) of gin into a double old-fashioned glass full of ice.
It's just standard Gilbey's or Gordon's.
Not the high priced spread.
I fill the glass with tonic.
If I have a fresh lime, I put a wedge in.
If not, I give a squeeze of RealLime.
If not, it's just gin 'n tonic.
Go figure.

17. Being Alone
I love my life, even though it is the result of a lot of pain.

I live alone with a dog and a cat, and I get up at two in the morning, do two hours of yoga, an hour of weight lifting... I do whatever I want, whenever I want, but I'm responsible, healthy, spiritual and moral.

But I'm very cognizant of the fact that I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to live this way.

The great pain in my life/thinking comes from knowing how much many people suffer. It is hard to escape that or ever feel truly content as long as that knowlege remains in my conscience.

69. I'll second the effect of great suffering resulting in knowing what other go through.
When old things come up and out and I can't handle it, I accept it by telling myself "this is what other people experience". Then it often clears, so the lesson must be to understand this.

Good for you.

21. Programming computers into submission
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 07:57 PM by Xipe Totec
No, seriously.

That is my one talent in life; the one thing I spurned because it seemed so trivial and easy that it did not seem worth my time.

Then, I realized that not everyone can do it.

That floored me.

I have worked on monster mainframes like IBM3090-Js, AP101s that flew on the shuttle, microprocessors like the Intel iAPX-86 family, and DSPs that run on your cell phone.

To me, they are toys, and I despise them for their triviality.

74. Computers are the dumbest machines in the universe.
They are so dumb, they don't even know what they're good for; you have to tell them.

You have to tell them what to do, and how to do it in the most mind-numbingly tedious way.

Their saving grace is that they are too dumb to get bored doing it.

50. I have a pretty good green thumb.
I've had one houseplant for 30 years. It's a False Aralia - difficult to keep alive. I bought it at Woolworth's in my hometown when I was 17. It was about six inches tall. Now it's brushing the top of my nine foot ceiling.

It'll probably die now that I bragged about it.

I just did a Google image search -- that's a neat looking plant!

I have a philodendron that i've had since 1998... i get anxious about it even though they're very hardy, because it was a plant at my great-grandma's funeral. So now i'm kind of attached to it. If you have any tips, let me know! :)

55. Philodendron are great.
I don't have any particular advice, except that I've noticed that after a long time, philodendron sometimes start to rot a little near the roots. I recommend repotting periodically - every few years or so.

For extra insurance, you could take cuttings every now and then and repot them once they've grown roots. That way, if one plant dies, you still have clones. It's the same plant.

To root a cutting, just cut or break off a nice green growing tip and put it in water. It should grow white roots in a few weeks. Pot it up and voila!

Good luck - it's always wonderful to have plants with special meanings. :hi:

80. Finding obscure dead people in my family tree...
whom others had given up on finding using every resource at my disposal!

The words Nancy Drew and PIT BULL have been used multiple times for me by various cousins who love what I'm doing, and love seeing the progress of the book.

Also good at writing, editing, and trivia.

81. Tetris.
Utterly useless skill, but I am seriously better than anyone I've ever met in my life, by FAR. I'm like a Tetris savant.

Why couldn't it have been astrophysics?

84. I can withstand an insane amount of verbal abuse from my family..
And when I finally snap I leave without telling anyone. This skill will come in handy in a few days.

87. Hackey Sack! Serious skillz.
I was about to say that I regularly show up kickers half my age, but we're getting to where some of them are closer to 1/3 my age. Any Philly area foot-baggers reading this?
