Is The Word 'Dutch' Offensive?
Especially, "Dutch Uncle".

I've got a Dutch uncle. He lives just outside of Utrecht, The Netherlands, and he's a really nice guy.

I think that this denigration of Dutch uncles should come to a complete end... It's so unfair

1. Not to mention Dutch Courage and Going Dutch
This stereotype of stingy drunks has got to stop! The few Dutch people I actually know are neither.

5. Damn Skippy
Anybody who ever thought that the Dutch just laid down and let the Nazis walk in should reread the Diary of Anne Frank and check out a movie called Soldier Of Orange, starring Rutger Hauer.

And all the times I've spent with my Dutch family, nobody ever asked me to go "Dutch", unless Dutch meant warm welcomes and great food.

12. Depends on the context
In the following: definitely

"I think the Devil sh*ts Dutchmen." Sir William Batten, quoted in Joseph Heller's "Picture This"

I can't think of anything more offensive than "Dick Van Dyke"

14. Ask a Friesian Islander how much he likes a Dutch Uncle!
And a Dutch treat? No treat at all! Hve you seen that movie, Dutch, with Ed O'Neill? No (amster)damn good! They saw doors in half, kill elm trees, get all their 'courage' from drinking alcohol, plant tulips everywhere and engage in drainage schemes that border on the ingenious. And dutch cheeses? Don't edam, they're no gouda.

18. What about "in Dutch"?
that is to say, "in trouble"?

Tiny portion of Dutch ancestry here, so remember, "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much!"

19. Where outside of Utrecht?
My husband has an uncle living in Zeist and his best friend lives in Waddinxveen.

Oh, and what we would call 'going Dutch', the Dutch call an 'American' date.

BTW, I think Zeist is the nicest town I've ever seen. If I were to live anywhere in Holland, I'd chose to live there
