Poll question: Girly Thread: Which dress do you like better?
(I warned ya it was girly!)

To set the scene, i'm getting married next Sept 6 in Nantucket, MA. We are having a very small and informal ceremony either on the beach OR in my parents' backyard if the beach is too noisy/crowded. The reception is basically a glorified cookout w/ tent. So i'd like to look pretty but i can't stand the thought of a high-maintenance dress!

Here are two i like so far... What do you think?

Dress 1 Front

Dress 1 Back

Dress 2 Front

Dress 2 Back

1. #1 for two reasons.
1. It's GORGEOUS! And I mean gorgeous. Wow.

2. The other dress will drag on the ground and if it's a "glorified cookout without a tent" it could be a pain in the ass you don't need and won't want on your wedding day.

Congrats!

I haven't even considered anything with a long train... but even that short one could get annoying. Plus i have to be able to dance! :D

Thanks!

88. AND the back could be altered to make it a knockout cocktail dress
People think that a red dres stands out in a crowd...but a gorgeous white lace dress will have the same effect..

It's a dress that could "have legs".. and show them too :)

the other one is pretty too, but #1 is my favorite :)

I'd vote for #1 purely on the basis of practicality. That dress will work a lot better walking around on a beach then #2 would.

Esp. the little buttons... so pretty! In any case i haven't tried either of them on... maybe one of them will look a lot better than the other once i actually go shopping instead of perusing the internet! :)

the lace overdress, or whatever it is called, is nicer, too.

more suited for an outdoor wedding. #2 is too conventional.

I don't know yet -- i haven't been to try them on yet. I am actually hoping to find a style/size i like and then buy the dress used on craigslist or Ebay. My mom thinks i am a goofball for that, but we are trying to keep everything inexpensive and environmentally friendly -- so why not get a recycled dress? :)

And if you know anyone who is handy with a sewing machine you can either alter one or find a pattern you like and get one made from scratch.. of hemp! :D

Seriously, do you know the OP? If not, you have your own ISSUES and are using them in a hurtful way toward someone else for no other reason THAN YOUR OWN ISSUES! I don't know the OP, but I do know the BS I see over and over on this site. Work out what you need to work out, but don't rain on someone else's parade for no reason.

that i really fell in love with. I hope i like it as much once i've tried it on! If not, i may just look at simple white or cream non-wedding dresses. So many of the wedding dresses available are just huge and ruffly and high maintenance -- not what i'm after at all!

Thanks for the congrats :D

17. I voted for the first dress.
Our wedding was similar to what you are describing...backyard with a glorified cookout with a tent.

I opted for getting a dress for the ceremony that I really wanted and after all the pictures, I changed my clothes. It wasn't a big ordeal and none of my wedding clothes ended up smelling like the fire-pit.

I'll have to keep that in the back of my mind in case i see a dress that i love, but that isn't appropriate for traipsing around the backyard all night.

33. first of all CONGRATULATIONS!!!
:applause:

on the dress -- i think i have to go the pic# 2 -- i just can't get into the assymetrical hemline.

some whow all the ''frosting'' on the dress weighs that down -- and makes that hemline wrong.

the second is more classic.

you will have the issue of the beach to deal with if you go with the second however.
but i'd probably hammer rusty nails into my foot for style -- so there ya go.

34. I just don't like the second one.
The lace, or gause, or whatever that fabric is hanging on the second dress detracts from the real dress underneith. And you know it's going to snag, or get stepped on, and then it's all over.

Definitely, I love #1 for a whole lot of reasons.

I think that's why i immediately loved dress 1... because i envision looking like my regular self, with my hair all down and crazy, and probably no shoes. :-) I see friends get married and they spend all day primping and putting their hair up into these fancy hairsprayed up-dos and shellacking on makeup and then they're afraid to move their heads! I've gone that route as a bridesmaid, and NO THANKS!!

I like girl #1, so I say dress #1. If that girl was in another dress, I'd probably pick a different dress.

And if any of these girls had a bigger booty, I'd probably pick THAT dress.

But then, I'm just a "thinking with the wrong brain" man.

67. I like simple stuff

That second one is nice, but I imagine it would look rather tatty after being dragged through the sand.

70. Another vote for number 1
Number 2 just looks totally out of place in the beach picture, whereas number 1 captures the "informal-pretty" which you seem to be aiming for.

72. I'd go with #2...
It's stunning and has more "wow" factor than the first one.

If it was a casual or beach wedding, I'd go with the first choice. If your looking to have your wedding in a church with a big walk down the aisle, you can never go wrong with a train, so the second choice will be better.

Both are beautiful though :)

Congrats :hi:

73. I chose dress 1 cause the model favors you.
 Damn, sissie, your fiancee is a lucky man. I'm going to get married on a beach some day. WOW, congrats.

77. They are both gorgeous!
But if you're having it on the beach or near it you will want to run barefoot and get into the surf, at least a little. So dress #1 is the best since it shows off your feet and allows you to move without tripping. Besides it looks much 'sexier' and mature than the other one. Dress #2 is wonderful too, but it has much more of a sense of innocence and is promlike. Plus, it'll be a nightmare if you frollic in the surf. I'm assuming you're picking the beach location for the romance of exotic naturalness.

78. Well, I like dress two, but
I think it would be higher maintenance than dress one. Luckily, they're both pretty.

Congratulations!!!

79. # 1 because it won't drag in the sand and is more beachy looking
than #2, However if you were going inside for everything, # 2 is a drop dead gorgeous dress. LOVE the train. However for up there in Sept, I would order a shawl in the lace just in case it is chilly. You never know up there.

80. #1 but with an important slight yet simple change
I think dress #1 would be the way to go for the type of event you describe because it doesn't trail the ground. However, any dress that is strapless won't stay up on it's own well unless it's really tight fitting (which also would translate to uncomfortable). I doubt you want to be having to haul your dress up all day especially with lots of people taking photos.

I would seriously consider adding some pretty rhinestone or pearl spaghetti straps, or even better, attach a pretty rhinestone or pearl necklace to the top of the bodice so you won't have to keep hauling it up all day. Something like this...

This particular necklace doesn't hang low enough to attach to the bodice but you get the idea. You can find some really lovely and cheap rhinestone or pearl neclaces that would be lovely just poking around in second hand shops.

An arrangement like this would also keep the eye focused more on your face than on your bosum.

82. Number One
I think it would be easier to manage on a breezy day and that train on #2 could get messy and dirty being dragged around a yard or beach. Plus, it's recyclable; a shawl would turn it into a lovely summer evening gown.

84. I'm just crashing the thread, but I think all those models need to drink a milkshake or something.
I'd be worried to touch their arms for fear of breaking them.

86. can you wear both ?
the 2nd for the wedding ceremony part. and the 2nd one for the reception or when you leave for your honeymoon.

2nd one does look nice, but the 1st seems more unique compared to most wedding dresses.

either way, i like them both. it could be the pictures but the embroidery in the first dress looks like it might be much more beautiful than we seen in the pics. i'm guessing you will try them both on before deciding.

89. Dress One. Approachable but sexy and formal.
Not so traditional and totally hot, IMHO. I like 2, too, just not as much as one.

90. I like dress 2 better but picked dress 1 based on what you said you wanted.
Dress 2 has that train so it would be a little more trouble.

They're both nice.

92. Dress 1
Looks more flirty and fun. Dress 2 is a little bit dated, IMHO (brings up thoughts of the '70's), and the train is a bit much and I don't like the ribbon around the waist.
