Tattooed people... I have a question.
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 03:45 PM by redqueen
I'm thinking of getting one... but I'm not quite sure where or when to get it.

So I'm asking you... did you get yours on a special occasion? At a certain time in your life? Or was it more of a random thing?

Also where did you get it? I'm thinking below the small of my back, but I'm not sure. I just want it covered up... suggestions are welcome and appreciated! It's a small, roundish design.

I'll get it Sometime next spring, I think.

Thanks for sharing. :hi:

1. argh
lower back tattoos should be outlawed from 2 weeks ago

I got mine after thinking I wanted one for about a year, then I was in vacation and got one.

I just want it to be covered up... that's the main reason I was thinking of there... also, well it's a goofy woo woo thing so nevermind. :P

Got any better ideas?

20. That's too bad. Now you can never have an epidural.
You know, for childbirth.

2. I don't know why I decided to do it.
It was just something that appealed to me, so I went ahead and did it. It was a great experience and it's on my list of things to do again sometime.

I only have one, got it on my left bicep. I chose that spot more or less because I wanted it somewhere that *I* could see it. I don't think I would ever get one someplace I couldn't.

13. It's somethig I did in the service
a long time ago, drunker than hell. It's kind of awful, but it isn't very big and it's high up on my shoulder where even a short sleeve shirt covers it up, so I just left it there.

6. Girlfriend of a friend and her friend went to get belly rings
this woman struck up a conversation with them and told them all about how she was getting her DREAM tatoo that day. She showed them an illustration her friend had drawn up for her

it was satan **$#ing her in the ahem backside

So...that one is taken

YIKES!

I also once was talking to this CHICK at a concert sponsored by a radiostation. She SO LOVED the station that she got their logo tattooed on her thigh. Big about 4 inches wide-looked like a cartoon BLAST with 106.7 in the middle. About two months later they changed their format (from "Alternative" to dance/hiphop) and their logo.

7. I have two
I got them both in college, somewhat randomly, but after thinking about it for a long time. I still love them and i'm thinking now about getting one of them reworked. I have an abstract lizard on my lower back but off center, pretty much on my kidney i guess. LOL. Many people now assume it's a salamander since that's what i'm studying for my research. I also have a small rose between my shoulder blades. That's my middle name, and i was named after my FANTASTIC grandma, so that one has a lot of meaning. I'm thinking of having some viney leaves added to it and hiding the date of my wedding anniversary in the vines somewhere. That could be neat, but right now i am too broke. :)

People say that along the spine is very painful, but i actually remember the lizard hurting more than the rose. For me anyway it was the long outline lines that were killer. The lizard has a long tail and that HURT!!! But the rose was just a bunch of short lines so that wasn't as bad IMO.

What are you thinking of getting?

12. Ah I don't want to say...
I know it's silly... but I picked out a symbol a long time ago and then it got trendy, so I abandoned that idea.

Now I've finally found one that is something that I think is more obscure... so I don't wanna ruin it! :P

who did tatoos.

I woke up, and there it was.

I'll either never drink, or have a boyfriend again!

11. I kicked the idea around for a couple of years.
Then I got it a few weeks ago, because I had access to somebody who uses vegan ink (most inks use animal-derived glycerin) and the time to do it.

14. For me it had to "click"
Getting a tattoo has been something I've considered since I was in college but always mindful of how permanent and how much of a statement it makes about your image (both of ourselves and how you want others to see you) I never felt I could find the right design.

But as I got older and become more confident in who I am and found my passions so to speak - the things I really cared about that make up a lot of who I am - something clicked and I came up with a design:

That I liked the looks of and that represented something about me that I wanted to have for myself and as a way to present myself to others.

That was my first.

And once you get your first the criteria or motivator for more gets simpler I guess :) I got my second, a simple set of wolf tracks on my shoulder, as a result of an event and to help me make a statement again about myself. My wife asked for a divorce and a while after that as part of working my way through this I got the tracks which represent moving forward with my life.

I got mine at a place in Cambridge, MA that came highly recommended and after looking at portfolios of a couple of the artists. I really like the guy I went to, I have plans for other tattoos and I can't imagine going to anyone else.

21. I have lots
Only 2 are "special occasion". One I got done on my 21st birthday (simply because I had the day off from work) and the other has my daughters name, got it when she was about 2.5. The rest are just things I thought looked cool, gotten at no special time. I AM getting some work done on my birfenday next week, but that's again due to me being off of work and my brother having an opening.

But I'd like to get another. I can't see mine, so I'd like to get one that I can enjoy. :D

I got mine when I was young and single and wanted to do something for myself. My gf and I went together. She was getting a divorce and wanted to get one too. She got a butterfly and I got a heart.

33. I currently have one. Haven't had it long but
I love it. It was my own design. The artist tweaked it perfectly. It's on my ankle, btw. The next one will be upper back, between the shoulder blades. I hear it's painful but I have a high tolerance so I'm not worried.

I am planning on getting another one. I have something commemorative in mind and I'm just waiting for the right design to pop into my head.
