HELP! Need opinions on which car to drive to Wichita from Texas, quickly!
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 09:01 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
I know this sounds ridiculous.

We are driving from Irving, Texas to Wichita, Kansas tomorrow (NATURALLY we have to leave ON the holiday - that's our luck). Actually we will overshoot Wichita and drive 90 miles east to Toronto, Kansas to my dad's grave, then go to Kechi, Kansas (north of Wichita) to Mom's and sister's graves, then check in at our Wichita hotel. We were planning to drive Mr. DTBK's 2007 Lexus ES350, but discovered this evening that he's due for an oil change. The "service engine" light is coming on. Should we take that car and try to get in at the Lexus dealership in Wichita for an oil change on Friday, or should we just take my MINI Cooper, which isn't due for an oil change for another 300 miles (but then I'll be due for my 10,000 mile service while on the journey, and I want to have that done at home, not on the road)?

Which car would you take? I don't know if we could get a rental at this late date. HELP!

1. The MINI Cooper.
It'll show Mr. DTBK how frugal you are.

(that and it's riskier to assume that you'll find a dealer for the oil change on Friday.)

2. HAHAHAHAHA
I'm looking online - the dealership in Wichita lets you schedule service online - might try that...

3. Service Engine typically means there is more than an oil change needed.
Take the Mini Cooper. As was said above, you may not be able to find a Lexus dealer in Wichita in Friday who can take you.

Have a safe journey.

4. It doesn't say that exactly - I think it's "oil maint. needed"
He had his oil change at the dealership at 4,000 miles instead of 5,000 - now the car says it's time for the 5,000 miles later maintenance, which includes, but is not limited to, oil change.

7. Actually, we just booked a rental car
I always wonder what'll happen while driving on a long trip and I'm overdue for an oil change - I really don't care to find out, especially since tomorrow's a holiday. Also, I don't want to void any warranties or anything.

8. A good choice
Also, you're not putting any miles on your own car. Have a good trip!

9. Nothing magic happens at (X)mileage intervals.
Take either one, it matters not one whit wrt the longevity of your cars.
