Hello from Buffalo!
Hi everyone! I made it here. I am at my friends' house, buried in hot packs and blankets and I'm kind of (very) out of it from meds and pain. I've been babbling to my friends. Please indulge me for a bit while I babble to you too. :)

I can't even describe the types and levels of pain. Rolling muscle spasms in my back started right after the plane took off and haven't stopped. The arthritis pain in my fingers, toes and hip is just something horrible. But fortunately my other arthritic joints aren't nearly as bad right now. Small blessings and all that...

I took a high dose of painkiller an hour before the flight left, just in case I was able to get on the flight (good thing) and again on in the air half an hour before landing. I still couldn't stand up or hold onto my crutches when we landed. I sort of expected that, but it's still surprising me that I still can't put any pressure on my feet. x(

When the meds start to wear off in a few hours I'm going to find out what kind of shape I'm really in. Except I hope my muscle relaxants are going to knock me the hell out. The pain will wake me up when the MRs start to wear off (after about 4 hours) amd then I guess it'll be an endurance test for the rest of the night.

I'm going back and editing this post over and over adn over again because I can't spell or type right now. I hope this is coherent.

Thank you for the good thoughts and vibes. I'm with friends who love me and I'm going to do everything I can to enjoy this trip. :)

4. I will.
It's too late to call her, and you know how quiet my voice often gets when I'm in pain. I doubt she could hear me. So I'll call her tomorrow, and she's coming over tomorrow night for desert. :)

You won't need to edit your post, sweetie!

It's perfectly coherent and all that just the way it is!

I'm so sorry you're having so much unbelievable pain...

I wish all those awful symptoms would just up and leave you alone...

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your good friends!

8. Hi Peggy!
Right now I'm more freaked about about not being able to stand up than I am about the pain that's the reason I can't stand up.

Regardless, I'm just very happy to be here. I love the people I'm with. They're reading over my shoulder and say hello! :hi:

29. I am very, very glad I'm here.
Pain comes and goes regardless of what I do, so I won't let that stop me. Even the heightened pain, as bad as it is, is passing. It's not what I'll probably remember when I think back about this weekend, so it's worth enduring. What I'll have in the end is the fun memories of being here.
:)

I hope you're having a fun holiday too.

And I hope you are too!

It's weird, but Loungers have sort of watched my fall, from walking on a cane a year ago to using crutches, to needing braces too, and now to losing my ability to walk. I wonder what it looks like to all of you.

I'll ponder that, and probably post a thread later asking people what they think.

But for right now, I really just hope everyone's having a great holiday! :loveya:

I got the expected 4 hours of sleep. That'll do. Later I'll hopefully be able to take a short nap. :)

In the meantime I have a 13 year old folling me around, playing games with me, helping me out, and treating me like I'm his hero. How cool is that?

I hope your family is having a great holiday. Please say hi to your daughter for me and wish her a wonderful Thanksgiving for me.

I'll be visiting him for Christmas. Thank you for opening up and giving me a better insight into what he's dealing with.

You've just made Dad's Christmas better, because his son will be able to be even that much more understanding.

I hope your dad is doing well. And I hope you have a good time with him.

If you're able to understand what your dad is dealing with, and that helps you spend some better quality time with your dad, then that's totally awesome! I am glad to be of some help. :)

34. Yes, they do.
And some of them are remarkably unpleasant to meet in person, from my few experiences with them.

When I used to live up here I worked at a marina and the guys who had boats there were rude to everyone.

Buffalo, despite the bills and the general poverty of the area, is a really nice area and I love many of the people up here. :)

18. Welcome to Buffalo, mang...we're friendly people
Just remember two rules about our food (assuming you're willing or able to eat what passes for food here).

Anchor Bar might have done it first, but Duffs has the best Buffalo wings in the city.

Beef on Weck is delicious to almost every single Buffalonian, but very few people outside of the region enjoy it, for some reason.

Oh yeah, have fun and enjoy the turkey.

:)

So I'm very familiar with Duffs. I'm a vegan so I've never had their wings, but I can smell authentic wings from a hundred yards away. I mock NYC supposed versions of buffalo food. :)

I am definitely having a good time, despite my health and lack of mobility. I'm hanging out with fun people. :)

36. I definitey am.
One of the friends I'm staying with works as an advocate for people with disabilities, and one of the other people has a disability and has jumped through the social security disability hoops. Part of what we're doing this weekend is collecting information and planning out what I'll need to do when I finally can't work anymore. So this is kind of a working holiday.

But outside of that we're also having a hell of a good time.

It's always good when you're with people you love! :)

The only worst days were when I was on lesser painkillers. But I'm on heavy enough stuff to endure a hell of a lot.

Today is much better than yesterday. By tomorrow I hope to be over the effects of the flight. (maybe even by tonight!)

So over-all, I'm handling everything and doing well. :)

I think you're right. Pain is an immediate thing. You can remember that you were in pain, and you can anticipate pain very accurately, but it's hard to remember pain. So my memories will almost certainly be very positive. :)

I'm getting noticably better every few hours.

45. I am.
I've sort of cultivated the ability to have fun despite the pain. I complain about it, but I don't wallow in it.

My friends are very good at ignoring the yelps, moans, groans and signs of pain. They know that unless I say something it's manageable and under control. So my pain isn't interfering with their holiday, and that helps me enjoy it too.

:hi:
I hope you're having a good time and enjoying yourself too.

49. Ha! I have become famously scattered.
My memory is very sharp for some things, and very dull for others. :P

I have been giving a hell a hell of a lot of stuff away and donating stuff. If I have to go on disability, and move because of it, I don't want to have so much to move. And, if I have to change everything around to make my place handicapped accessible in the meantime, then I need to give a lot of stuff away now.

The politics here is corrupt. The economy here is dead and stagnant. Many of the people here are very conservative and openly racist.
