I've never had a duck for Thanksgiving, but my wife and I split family visiting this year (usually it's one or the other but this time we split), and she left last night, but today, driving to my family was in dense fog, sleet and freezing rain, and as much as we needed to be together (first time in 15 years with everyone there) I had to scrap it and turn around. It would be a three hour trip in good weather, and I just couldn't see making it up and back, and we couldn't stay over because I have dogs, so we scrapped it.
My son wanted to have Thanksgiving though, so we stopped at a store, luckily still open. All turkey's were frozen, of course, so they were out, and I didn't want to just get a microwave dinner, so we settled on a duck, which I am now roasting (I can cook, and I've roasted duck before so this is not a tale of woe, food-wise, except that I couldn't find any aromatics since everyone bought them up for their turkeys). So I'm roasting a duck for Thanksgiving.
So, "quacky" Thanksgiving everyone. I wish I was with my whole family, but at least I'm with my son.
