YOUR choice for the WORST "Supergroup" of all time
Here are a couple to get you started:

1). Bad English

The Babys' Jonathan Waite on vocals, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain from Journey, and 2 non-super guys on bass & drums.

2). Damn Yankees

Jack Blades from Night Ranger, Tommy Shaw from Styx, plus the Nuge, and another guy you never heard of on drums.

OK...Your turn!

1. The Firm
On paper, it sounded great. Paul Rodgers, Jimmy Page and some other excellent musicians.

On CD, however, it sounded like crap.

2. You're right. They didn't have the songs or the passion.
No "Zep-caliber," "Free-caliber," "BadCo-caliber" songs on either of their two albums, and both Page and Rodgers just seemed like they'd be happier elsewhere.

8. They were even worse LIVE.....
Unbelievably bad. Might have been the single most dissappointing concert I have ever been to.

9. Page was pretty into the white stuff at that time
And he was coming from a several year hiatus where he didn't touch the guitar.

12. I agree
They received a lot of hype and only had one pop hit to show for it.

"Heat of the Moment", yes, but "Only Time Will Tell" got some air and MTV play too.

Since I got XM Radio and moved to Wisconsin, I have heard "Sole Survivor" three times! Hadn't heard it in twenty something years!

14. I only liked "Heat of the Moment"
Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 10:40 PM by Generic Brad
Maybe that is why I subconsciously blocked out their other songs. And I have their CD sitting right in front of me.

10. I don't know if it counts as a supergroup, but...
Coverdale/Page always seemed congenitally ridiculous to me.

11. And now that I think of it, Tin Machine wasn't too great, either
David Bowie

Adrian Belew, I think.

And...?

18. Tin Machine:
Bowie, Tony & Hunt Sales, & Reeves Gabriels (no Belew), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_Machine

The concept always seemed better than the actual CDs. I was relieved when Bowie simply went back to being Bowie.

19. Thanks--I was too lazy to Wiki on my dialup connection
IIRC Belew played on the Sound and Vision tour, and of course Bowie sang on Pretty Pink Rose.

Somewhere in all of that I must have jumbled Belew in with Tin Machine. Oops!

20. there's a great story from one of the Pixies about Tin Machine...
Edited on Fri Nov-23-07 11:24 PM by gmoney
I think it was Joey, the guitarist, and they were playing a big Euro-festival, and Bowie invites Joey into his trailer to play him the Tin Machine record.

"How was it?"

"Well, with David Bowie standing right there, it was the best fucking thing I'd ever heard."

(on edit: Turns out Bowie was a huge fan of the Pixies, which sort of inspired him forming the group)

15. Audioslave
I saw them in '05, they put on a good show. But Chris Cornell + Rage =/= work. They made one decent album and two shitty albums. Now on the other side, Rage is back together and rocks more than ever, and Chris Cornell's new solo album is fantastic.

...but Audioslave didn't have what it took to stay in it for the long haul.

28. Weak '80s project.
Steve Howe from Yes, Steve Hackett from Genesis with an ex-Marillion drummer. For some reason, this combination of musicians produced a barely listenable single that sounded kind of like Journey, of all things. And come to think of it, Journey would certainly be contenders for worst supergroup...

Well...that really sucks ass, and I'm not even sure that listenable is a real word, but since I'm so drunk, I decided to make it up...here, tonight. :D

Though it spawned my all time favorite record review. Not even one word long. It just read "SHT."
