Somewhat dorky confession:
Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 07:12 PM by rbnyc
I have a thing for Severus Snape. Yes, Professor Snape from Harry Potter.

I must qualify myself in several ways. First, I don't think the books are very well written, but they are thoroughly imaginative, and written well enough that they can be enjoyed if you put your serious literary critic to bed.

Second, I resisted reading the books for a long time, despite numerous recommendations from friends. Then, when I was in my famous car accident and was in the hospital for weeks, my best friend bought me the box set of the first four books. For a person who is unable to move in a hospital bed and who is massively doped up, the Harry Potter books are ideal. They take only the tiniest brain-power to absorb, and they truly take you away to another world.

One thing about my car accident that I hardly ever talk about, is how much of a relief it was. That sounds terrible. I mean, I was disabled; I lost my baby; I lost my garden wedding and was married in my hospital bed, in the orthopedic gym, wearing a diaper; I couldn't go to my own wedding reception; I had my honeymoon in a rehabilitation center; I will be in pain for the rest of my life; I will need a hip replacement. But it was a relief, a tremendous relief. From the very moment we realized the extent of my injuries, every adult responsibility that had been on my shoulders was suddenly taken care of. My friends and family and coworkers took care of EVERYTHING, every last detail of my home and work business. My only responsibility was to get better. That's the only thing I had to do.

So what does this have to do with Severus Snape?

Well, I am under a LOT of pressure at home and at work. I am the Director of 2 departments and I have no staff. My ED is superman and has very high expectations. At home we are seeing specialist after specialist trying to figure out if my son has autism, OCD, ADHD, or if he's just some type of weird super-genius. My husband has an anger issue and everything revolves around that. Our bare-bones cost of living is exactly what we earn, so nothing can ever, ever go wrong and we can never need anything extra. (Though we did manage to get a tree, and go out to eat 3 times since Friday...but now I have to figure out how we're going to live without the extra money we spent this weekend.) Anyway, it's all normal stuff, and probably not worse than what anyone else is going through, but it still equals STRESS.

So in the midst of this stress emerges an intense sexual and emotional fantasy about Severus Snape.

I mean intense, too. It's actually enhanced my sex life a bit. But I think my husband would be a little disappointed if he knew what I was thinking about.

Anyway, I don't tend to have fantasies based on existing literature, characters, actors, etc. My fantasies to this point have always been very original. I feel quite low-brow. But I'm helpless--helplessly under the spell of this dark, sexy, misunderstood, B-Fiction Wizard.

Do I need help?

Ever had a weird fantasy you couldn't shake?

EDIT: typo

1. People think about and do far weirder stuff.
Why not have a little fun and get your husband to role play?

4. His voice isn't deep enough.
Maybe we should rent a bunch of Harry Potter flicks and I could get him to practice.

7. I know several people who have a thing for Snape.
:hi: So you're definitely not alone. Also, my fantasies usually involve either rock stars or nerds (or occasionally both), so if anyone needs help here, it's probably me. Peace.

8. My dear rbnyc!
I would say, after everything you've been through, that you're more than entitled to any sexual fantasy you like!

I find Severus Snape quite intoxicating too!

But then, I adore the actor, Alan Rickman!

Anything that enhances your sex life is a very good thing, IMHO!

Enjoy yourself, sweetie...You deserve it!

13. Ok... I'm back...
The morning after I was proposed to I was in a serious car wreck, also. I was going to get into the whole story, but I won't bore you.

We all deal with things in our own way. I don't think your fantasy is really unusual. There are often "dark" characters we find sexy... because they are exciting in the "bad boy" or sometimes "bad girl" way.

I sure hope everything calms down on the home front for you, soon... especially with your son and your husband's anger.... and at work! You have so much going on... you deserve a nice fantasy or two!!

17. It's just that it's Harry Potter!
It's so pedestrian. I mean, okay, I AM a snob. I'm a nice snob. I'm an open-minded snob too. But there is an underlying snob in me that feels like a dork being so profoundly moved (to the marrow) by a character from the Harry Potter series.

Still, he's dark and sexy. The books (and the movies) are absorbing and paint a detailed picture of another world.

In my fantasy, I am a young student, and I fall instantly in love with him...a deep spiritual love as I am such a young girl. Snape enters my mind and becomes a voyeur to my love for him. He becomes somewhat addicted to it, and begins to develop feeling for me, which is confusing to him, as I am so young. As I mature, I begin to sense he is spying inside me so I go to him and request that he grant me privacy. At the same time I ask that he tutor me privately in the art of Occlumency, the wizarding art of blocking another's attempt to penetrate the mind and understand one's thoughts and feelings, so that I can someday be on equal footing with him, and choose whether or not I want to share my thoughts with him in this intimate way. As we work together one-on-one our feelings build, but we are disciplined and keep them to ourselves because I am so much younger than he. As I go through puberty, my feelings take on a new dimension and become harder to control. Finally, in desperation I perform this very difficult spell, where I am able to visit Snape in a dream and dominate him. That we we can make love without "really" making love, and Snape cannot be held responsible because I was able to dominate him. (I'm an exceptionally talented witch. Also, back-story, Snape and my father were great friends; my father died when I was a baby.)

After the dream encounter, Snape confronts me. He's angry that I violated him, more angry that I was able too. At the same time,he is impressed and does not regret the experience.

Anyway, it goes on and on.

Sigh.

Thanks so much for reading and posting.

14. Is that dorky?
:hide:

No, but all the best to you through your journey to wellness. Harry Potter has been a bright point in some pretty dismal years, and I figure you've got to take your happiness where you can get it. :)

15. Are you sure it's Snape, or Alan Rickman?
Alan Rickman I can easily understand... I don't know if he is married or not but he hates being cast in villainous roles, but he's played comedy and other serious stuff, but for some he's always typecast as a villain. Or as Snape. Alan Rickman is certainly date-material.

Snape the character himself? Well, I'm sure someone feels the same way about Dumbledore or even Harry Potter himself - so you're probably not alone there either.

Mark.

The character and the world are very much a part of it. Though Alan Rickman is my type.

22. For me, it's a "rescue fantasy"
I confess to be attracted to Snape as well - though I could live without that dingy underwear. I think it's because he's a complex character, whose motives are unfathomable (at least until the last novel). I feel like there's something basically decent about him, even though his actions are frequently despicable.

I suppose it's that common fantasy that the love of a Good Woman will reveal what a really sterling guy he is, under the grim facade. Or at the very least that she could give him some sexy boxer shorts for Valentine's day, which would help his self-esteem immeasurably.

Your reply is too funny. :)

It's true, there is something so appealing to be the ONE who can crack the surface.

28. Oh my God, if you like Snape, you MUST finish out the series
Snape is actually one of the absolute major characters in the series and factors VERY heavily into books 5, 6, and 7. In a way the series is about him as surely as it's about Harry.

Coming from a fellow Snape lover (he was my favorite character from book 1 on): you owe it to yourself to finish the books!!
