The Food Network has jumped the shark: Emeril Leaves Food Network

Emeril Lagasse is out at the Food Network. Contract negotiations between Emeril and parent corporation Scripps have broken down. Lagasse is leaving the Food Network as a result and the last day of production for Emeril Live will be on December 11.

Reruns of both Emeril Live will continue to appear on the channel and Lagasse will "continue to be a part of the Food Network family", according to Carrie Welch of the Food Network. Lagasse's defection follows Mario Batali's exit back in September.

We'll have more info shortly.

Update: Despite Emeril Live's demise, production is continuing on Essence of Emeril.

2. what are they going to do?
give Paula Deen's fucking grandkid a show?

her sons have one.

nothing but nepotism on that channel now.

and somebody tell Rachel Ray to leave her fucking husband at home.

you don't see Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern dragging their spouses behind them on the Travel Channel.

If it ain't Alton, it's crrrrrrrrap!!
I used tolike Rachael, but now she bugs me. Her recipes work though. Most of the other people on Food TV are tolerable. But Alton rules!

29. what does it look like I'm talking about?
why would I claim to have seen him on her show if I didn't see it?

Just because "you" haven't does not make it true.

I've seen him on her show several times.

They did a pot luck on one episode, and she made Bloody Mary's from one of his recipes.

She also did a show spotlighting fondue restaurants in NYC, and he was on with her.

Maybe it was only publicized here in NYC, but he had a very public scandal involving his having a long running stinky-foot and spit fetish relationship with some woman behind Rachel's back.

He really was, is, and will continue to be the face of the Food Network.

I was constantly torn between finding him to be entertaining and finding him to be a royal pain in the ass. But credit where credit is due...he made it into the "first name only" celebrity club, and that ain't easy.

Amazing.

He had virtually no knowledge of most of the chilis. So, he tasted each and every one of them..raw. And then combined that taste into a dish.

80. My wife and I just call her
"cleavage woman". Her head is so big it makes her look like an offshore oil platform. It's very distracting.

I wish rachael ray would leave the network-- though I enjoy some of her meals, that mouth of hers is just too much. Too much noise, too much width, too much.

Alton Brown is cool.

I wish they would show old Julia Child episodes.

End of disjointed mostly-off-subject post.

From September:

Irrelevant
Yep, that's the Food Network.

Iron Chef is shown one day a week, at 3 in the morning on Tuesdays. David Rosengarten and Anthony Bourdain are gone. John Besh may become a regular on the blasphemous Iron Chef America, which is fine. I mean, if they consider Cornboy an iron chef, why not.

But now Mario Batali is gone.

So unless you watch to see Giada or Gatemouth, there really isn't any reason for this drivel to be on basic cable anymore.

that's just the way Ashley's mind works (?). It would be entirely in keeping with his twisted and musically obsessed self to compare Her Perkiness to blues legend Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown.

Edit: That's exactly who it is.

57. Good.
Sorry, but Emeril sucked. People clapping for him putting in a shot of hot sauce? Were they that starved for entertainment? The Bam! thing was amusing for five minutes in the late nineties.

All hail Alton! If you really want to learn to cook, that's the show. And if you're not turned on by Paula putting a can of lard and three sticks of butter in everything, there's a show called Healthy Appetite with Ellie that's also pretty good, but infrequently updated. Also, she kind of resembles Jennifer Tilly, which is interesting.

I've only been able to sit through one full episode of it. One of the chefs put celery in a food processor the drizzled it on a plate as garnish. An announcers referred to it as mysterious green foamy stuff. The original may have been campy but they all knew their stuff.

66. I know the original has ended but

I don't think they even started airing it here until close to the end of the series. If they can air the same few people like Emeril several times a week there's no excuse for not airing more reruns of the original Iron Chef.

75. I've got to admit I had high hopes for him.
I knew an American version would be an abomination but if anybody could pull off the Kaga role it would be him. I know I saw his version but I think I was too distracted by everything that went wrong with it to notice how he did. Did you see when one of the commentators asked if they were eating sperm?

77. The FN is less and less about food and.....
more and more about entertainment. Everything now is so gimmicky, staged and scripted. More food porn than hosts who are passionate about food, cooking or eating. Call it what it is Cleavage Cuisine and Emeril's weren't big enough to compete. I'm back to PBS with Julia, Pepin, Lidia, Ming and Bayless.
