Amongst the submissions: "Wallowing in postcolonial miasma" "Overpriced, overweight, overcrowded...over" "Dentistry is not our forte." :rofl: Gotta love that British sense of humor. Too bad the US doesn't take after them more in that regard (we could use a bit more stiff upper lip too)

:pout: I think it must be envy. In all seriousness though, the Irish have had a long history of being looked at as second class and even as recently as my grandparent's time suffered from a LOT of discrimination. Maybe in this regard I'm lacking a sense of humor but it really bugs me to see, even on DU, people telling "Irish jokes" Again, maybe I need to lighten up but I don't personally think it's funny.

and I answered in your other thread.

I think the Irish are a historically self-effacing people, and the Irish have been the typical American success story, and in fact, area pretty good success story for Europe - so it's not seen as "picking on" people to tell an Irish joke.

Plus, we really DO drink a lot :D

There's also Honi soit qui mal y pense which is the motto of the Order of the Garter - both appear of the Coat of Arms; also Nemo me impune lacessit of the Order of the Thistle appears on the Scottish version of the Coat of Arms.

Meaning

Comic line, making fun of the US Army in Europe in WWII. There was a good humoured banter between the GIs that were stationed in Britain prior to and during WWII and the British citizenry. The GIs had a come-back - calling the Brits, "underpaid, undersexed and under Eisenhower".
