What's the best GPS system for under $200?
That might be our Christmas present and I want to make sure we pick the right one.

1. Have they come down below $200?
I want one, but I have not seen one below $250.

3. a map
with a big "You are here" arrow.

They have 'em at the mall. Couldn't find a price tag, though.

10. You would think that would work
but I'm severely directionally challenged. Ask my husband.

"How would this be a present for both of us if I'm the one who needs it most?"
"It would give me peace of mind to know that you weren't out there wandering around."

11. Yeah, that would work
But I was hoping to get opinions and personal experience from people here. I already have searched online and was hoping for a second opinion at a place I know.

If you're annoyed with the question, why waste your energy posting to it? Well, I guess that eyeroll thing is kind of fun.

7. Depends on how many new roads there are where you are driving
If there are a lot of new roads and places of interest (restaurants, shops, gas stations, etc), the newer roads and Places of Interest might not be on an older version of a Garmin or Tom Tom, and it will likely cost a bundle to get the latest maps downloaded. So, you won't get directions to that restaurant that opened a year ago, or that new theatre downtown that opened two years ago.

In that case, you might want to get the latest version of a lower-end model, as the maps will probably be more up-to-date.

However, if you live in a place where there are not a lot of new roads and new businesses and restaurants opening, an older version of a higher-end model might be better.

Yes it does, I have a garmin 2610, it actually would show messages on the screen that I needed too upgrade, eventually it quit working until I bought the latest map disc and installed it, so beware, it will cost some dollars down the road even if you get a good price now!
