Brookline Police report spotting a backhoe speeding away from a hit-and-run scene on Beacon Street Saturday morning. When they finally caught up with the errant piece of construction equipment, they charged Kevin Lasquade, 24, with operating while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident, fleeing the scene of a property damage accident and other various traffic offenses.

In other Brookline weird-crime news, police report that while investigating a ringing fire alarm at 3 a.m. on Sunday, they spotted a guy running down Beacon Street clad only in his underwear. They stopped him for a little chat and wound up charging him with setting the alarm. No word if Christopher Nogiec, 30, is a boxers or briefs kind of guy, but at least they didn't charge him with indecent exposure.
