Poll question: A poll for men
Does it matter to you if there is ever a woman President (of the US!) in your lifetime? My boyfriend and I were arguing about this while he was on an anti-Hillary rant. In the interest of full disclosure, Hillary is not my first choice, but when I wistfully said, "I wonder if there will ever be a woman president in my lifetime" it quickly became clear to me that he didn't care. He actually asked me today if I was "anti" having a male President!

18. Quite a few in Latin America
Which is counter-intuitive based on the stereotype of Central and South American culture.

3. man, woman
black, white, red, blue, purple...I don't care, just please, may we have someone who exhibits intelligence and common sense and will follow the constitution rather than piss all over it. That's enough for me.

We've had 43 white dudes and look where we have wound up. Maybe it is time for a change.

5. So assuming that everyone voting is male
Not even 30% care if there is ever a woman President.

That's a little depressing!

6. I think it would be nice to have a woman president
But I would not vote for a female politician on the basis of her gender if I thought her policies would stink.

If it were a choice between two equally good (or bad) politicians one of whom was a woman, I might choose the woman simply because a woman has not had the job before.

If you ask me, the only reason for making a big thing about having a woman leader is if things would actually be different because of it. Having a woman leader and things being exactly the same as they would have been otherwise is just a big yawn.

10. Ideally, there shouldn't be a presidency
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 02:22 PM by NoMoreMyths
However, since there is, and the position requires that this or that aspect of life grows, it doesn't matter what sex it is, we will only end up increasing the impact we have on the environment. If women want a shot at the top spot while that happens, technically that would be the definition of growth. That's the other half of the populations that can now win. Hooray.

just so we don't have to hear any more questions about when/if we're going to have our first female president.

:hide:

I think it's also important psychologically because it will remove the mystery for most people.

13. Best person for the job
My decisions are based on positions on issues. What will or won't get done during a term of office. Not on what is or is not between their legs.

16. Depends.
My only concern would be how well foreign countries would tolerate a female leader of a high prominence country. How they would test her. How she would respond to show those countries' leaders a woman is just as capable.

For foreign issues, and I'll admit she's been consistent on those at least, Hillary has what it takes. She does appear strong. Pity she's screwed up on discussing domestic issues (the cue cards proving to be a problem, apparently), which in turn makes people question the things she has been consistent on, but we can't all be perfect...

Sorry, gotta run. American idol is on...

It's now well established that female world leaders don't even raise eye-brows internationally.

does it seem a little strange to anyone else that the U.S. may well have a woman as president before Major League Baseball has one as an umpire?

21. It is by far not my first criteria
and there are many more important things than gender, but I would like to have a non-white, non-Christian, non-male as President, if for no other reason than because we're long overdue. Yes, I'd vote for someone like Gore over someone like Condi, but I think it would be nice to at least be able to say we're equal opportunity in this.

All that said, I don't think gender matters one way or the other, except that most women who get to high positions of power have had to work three times as hard to get there, and even harder to stay there because of the people who'd try to bring them down. I have a lot of respect for that, even though I wish it were not even an issue.

Does that make sense?

Rather than being a "let's stand up and be proud" moment

30. It would be a "nice" thing
But more than that, I'd like it to be a non-issue as to whether a candidate is male or female.

I was born and raised in a country with a female head of government (Thatcher), so it doesn't strike me as at all odd to have a female leader.

If it happens to be a dude, great! If it happens to be chick, great! The genitalia of the President is as unimportant to me as the skin color and personality.
