10. No kiddin'. Buzz wasn't defending himself. He was assaulted the guy for expressing an opinion.
When our government assaults us for expressing our opinions, we flip out (and rightly so). But when Buzz assaults someone for expressing an opinion, people shower him with praise. :wtf:

The BBC would like to apologize to the police about the character of Police Constable Pan Am. He was not meant to represent the average police officer. Similarly, the reference to Buzz Aldrin, the astronaut, was the product of a disordered mind and should not be construed as having any other significance.

13. It was more of a slander, than an opinion
Striking the man wasn't the way to go, some sort of witty comeback would have been best-served. But I can understand Buzz's frustration given the constant stalking by "Moon Landing Hoax" tinfoil loons.

Aldrin wasn't defending himself. He was committing assault.

19. Jim Lovell gave a lecture at my college when I was there
There was a "meet and greet" thing beforehand, with media and "friends of the college" and shit. I was there, from the college paper, as was our government reporter.

She asked him, "Did you go to the moon?"

"Yeah. Twice."

"How did you know you were on the moon?"

He said something like "We'd seen pictures of it." Guess he'd had that question a few thousand times before. :)

Funny, though — Lovell went to the moon twice, on Apollo 8 and Apollo 13, but never got to walk on it. He was supposed to, but the "problem" with Apollo 13 kinda screwed that pooch.

With age comes PRIVELEDGE.

Right or wrong, Buzz FREAKING Aldrin has certainly earned the right
to SLAP an annoying little punk every now and then.

If, God forbid, I ever live as long as he has...I will be slapping
the HELL out of young, punk-aaassed little bastards every time I leave my house!

18. If you're determined to assault people, I hope you have very competent legal counsel
and equally deep pockets. I love ya to death, dicksteele, but I'm convinced that the reason Buzz Aldrin wasn't prosecuted for that videotaped assault (which occurred about five years ago) is that he's Buzz Aldrin. I doubt the same latitude would be extended to you or me if we physically assaulted someone who ruffled our feathers.

Buzz tried to get away from him and the guy kept harassing him, trying to get him to put his hand on a bible and swear he went to the moon etc. Plus, the guy was bigger and like 40 years younger. But the guy also lured Aldrin there under the pretext of an interview for a children's show and once Buzz showed up the guy started harassing him.

But yeah, he probably shouldn't have hit the guy, but he had enough and the guy wouldn't back off. It wasn't a case of this guy just walking up, saying this stuff and getting hit, he legitimately was being a jerk and wouldn't let Buzz leave.

A "Flat Earth" kind of asshole, and you could tell he'd confronted Buzz before because of the emphatic "LEAVE ME ALONE" reaction he got.

I figure the "Sister Mary Elephant" response is perfectly legitimate with truly persistent non-4th Estate assholes.

I just have a soft spot for Aldrin; he's been through a LOT, and I don't mean the moon.

I look on the "...coward and liar..." from that asshole the same as if he'd said it to some serviceman given a medal for heroism.
