My Republican "buddies" were testy tonight!
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 09:56 PM by The Backlash Cometh
I brought up the subject of Janet Jackson and we all agreed that the incident wasn't an accident and that the Super Bowl wasn't a proper venue. My vicious Republican 'buddy' said that the NFL should sue her for degrading their image of a family show, and my clever Republican 'friend' said that she did it to take away attention from Michael Jackson's bad press.

Then the vicious Republican friend said, "Katie Couric will probably report that Jackson is a Republican." Now I know who Katie Couric is, but I haven't really watched her in a long time, but all three of the Republicans apparently invite her into their living every day. They came down on her hard and said she is a wide mouth Liberal that expresses her views entirely too much on a news network that requires objectivity. And I said what news network is she on? And they said the Today Show. I laughed my ass off. I said, "You watch the Today Show for your HARD news?" They said, "well, it's Soft entertainment news." Then I said, "if it's entertainment, I think she's entitled to her opinion." And then I added, "What about John Stossel?" And the vicious Republican friend said, "Oh the Liberals completely trashed him years ago! And he only became conservative because there were too many Liberals on the news." And the quiet Republican said, "He use to be a high profiled, promising reporter." To which I said, "Until they caught him manipulating information. I think it had something to do with agriculture." -- silence --

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is, these are people that are generally quiet and keep their politics to themselves (except for the vicious Republican) and they must be feeling the heat to come out and expose themselves the way they did. I think they sense that Bush is in trouble.

However, they all agreed with us that Janet Jackson's episode takes away from the real problems of today. They almost sound like DUers here, but we just wouldn't agree on what interpretation we should give the news.

2. If Janet Jackson is There Only Concern
regarding this country, then they are completely out of touch. Bush has trashed this country, our democracy etc... - Sounds to me like Janet Jackson has taken the focus off of Bush for these guys vs her brother.

3. I think they're very nervous.
Something has disturbed their calm. Janet Jackson was a safe topic for us, but there's something else bothering them and I suspect it was all those other topics hitting the news. I fear, however, that instead of understanding that this information regarding Bush & Cheney and the Iraq War is valid information for their review, they will see it as an election year attack from the Liberal Media. If so, I fail to see how the "Liberal Media" can be responsible for an on-going onslaught of bad press for Bush when everyone knows that the major media outlets are owned by Republicans.

4. The 'Liberal Media Attack' is exactly how everything will......
be portrayed by the Right; Bush will be made to look like a victim.
