I felt like it was time to tell our 2 year old a "truth" about this Santa business
I always promised myself that I wouldn't lie to her and since she is really "getting" Christmas and Santa and everything this year I felt like I should just go ahead and tell her the truth.

She nodded so maybe she understood maybe she didn't but I can rest easier now.

We actually were in the grocery store and I stopped and said,

"Honey there is something about this Santa thing that you deserve to know"

She looked up at me with wonder and anticipation

"Um... okay here it is....

it doesn't really matter how good or bad you are you are still going to get a heaping LOAD of toys anyway"

"Look this really doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you are the only grandchild either of your grandparents are ever going to see it is more universal than that"

She smiled. I don't know if she understood or not but she smiled. I added this, "but just don't be an ass about it okay? I mean short of multiple convictions, and then I would still bet on you getting SOMETHING, they are going to load you up. Okay?"

She looked right at me and said "Okay"

1. A yes, the only grandchild of 2 sets of grandparents.
Our little one is one of those, and this is the first real Christmas. I have serious doubts as to whether or not our car is large enough to bring back the piles of crap he's bound to get from them.

6. here's a dynamite tip for gift overload
let her open the presents, then hide half of them. she'll play with the ones that are left, and when she gets bored with those, bust out the other half.

it extends the shelf life of all of them.

7. Better yet
I take half of them back (with gift receipts) then go down to Lowe's and hire some "Mexicans" to rake up my leaves

12. You're totally missing the boat on conditional love
If you make her work for your love and affection, she'll value it more. You'll regret this when you need to guilt her out of putting you in a retirement home one day.

13. I think it's a great idea to remove fantasy and childhood wonder from little children!
:sarcasm:

Did you take away all her books too?

Yes, let's make sure kids deal with reality as soon as they can talk!

It's not like it isn't going to bite them in the ass when they hit the teens and twenties or anything. :eyes:

I think kids should start working at the elementary ages too! ;) Let's Put them to work too!

There's no time like the present to make them abandon imagination, fantasy and fun!

Get it all over with at a ripe young age!
