Does anyone know any online liquor stores that ship to other states?

Seems like all of them only ship to their own states anymore. I'm in Indiana - no one ships here.

1. I recall reading something about that.

The problem is alcohol distribution and the laws that define that. I think in many cases the Distributors do not want to give up the exclusive market they have. The independent vineyards want to sell directly to the consumers, but the distributors don't want to give that up and have paid lawmakers to retain that setup.

6. Related note

Budweiser has written or cosponsored 2/3rds of the liquor laws in the states. If they don't want you to have X, you won't have it, there you have it.

This is my somewhat local establishment that ships beer...

it is a Felony, under Indiana law, to ship alcohol from outside the state.

many states do, in fact, allow this, and the Supreme Court ruled that states only have to treat all companies the same. so any state that has internal shipping has to allow external shipping as well.

7. It's because of your state laws.

Some states will license out of state retailers, usually for a hefty fee. Some states make it very difficult, if not impossible, unless the liquor seller has an agreement with an authorized distributor in the state.

I hear this stuff all the time at local wineries when tourists inquire about shipping.

8. A friend of mine tried that

and she was told she couldn't ship liquor thru the mail. She ended up calling Big Red (Indiana franchise - is it where you are?) and they put together her order (a case of kriek - Belgian fizzy cherry beer.) Then Big Red called and the person who got the gift had to pick it up at the store.

You might want to call the post office first?

Otherwise, look online for a liquor store in the city where you want to send.

Not to all states though. When they actually offer wine for sale, they list on the front page what states they are able to ship to.

Note: Today is unusual, in that they aren't actually selling wine. It's what they are calling "gift week" - selling items related to wines. Here is a page that shows the last years offerings: http://wine.woot.com/Forums/

10. I just plugged in the zip 46201 (Indianapolis)

for Spec's Online (a Texas liquor store) and it said delivery was available but only for non-alcoholic products.

Maybe it's time to learn how to distill on your own :D

...that may even go back to the old "revinooin'" days. Maybe try talking to a manager at a major liquor chain - they might be able to have a store in the state of the recipient deliver so that state lines don't have to be crossed.

15. Our P.O. would not accept liquor carton as parcel.

Miz t. had a some Christmas presents to ship to a family we're friends with. Packed them in a box we got from the liquor store. I think it was a Barardi box.
P.O. clerk said they would not accept anything packed in a liquor box.
?????????
Had to either wrap it in something or pack it in another box.
