Can't decide if this is phishing, or if there's already a problem.

Can't decide if this is phishing, or if there's already a problem.
What do you think?

Just got a fake e-mail from "PayPal" confirming a purchase. I know it isn't really from paypal, because it starts out with "Dear valued Customer". Then it claims to be confirming a purchase I haven't made, and asks me to click on a link if I didn't order it.

So, is this just a matter of they will get info if I click, or do you think a purchase really has been made? Do I need to cancel ANOTHER damn card?!!

Btw, the only thing I've done in months on paypal was DU donations.

Thanks for thoughts.

panicked,
Critters

1. Scam: Paypal would address you by your real name.
Typical paypal scam. Someone here will tell you where to forward it. Don't click on the spam link.

also:
You should be able to log on to your paypal account (not through the spam link of course) and see any activity. :)

3. I doubt a purchase has been made
They are hoping you are dumb enough to click the link and enter account info.

If you go to the real PayPal site and check your account, you can verify that no unauthorized purchases have been made. But don't use the link the the email, obviously, just sign in at PayPal.com

:hi:

6. My paypal account doesn't show this activity.

I knew it was a fake--that it wasn't from paypal. I just didn't know whether they'd already gotten my info. After what happened in October, I'm a little nervous.

Thanks for your reassurances, everyone. I have forwarded the e-mail to paypal.

8. Oh my!
I have been getting similar e-mails only mine say someone has been trying to access my account. If it isn't me, follow link. blah. blah. blah. I have just deleted because I don't have a Pay Pal account.

9. Yeah. Scam.
If you mouse over the link, you'll see that it doesn't go to a "paypal.com" address, but to something starting with an IP address, with perhaps some of the URL using the word "paypal."

"Dear valued customer" is the key, as noted.
