did you ever cry because your team lost?
I remember that Alabama lost the national championship game to Notre Dame in the seventies. Two years in a row. Once in the Sugar Bowl, and the other in the Orange Bowl. And I cried both times. But I was just a child.

3. hockey?
Hockey is not a sport.

Just kidding. Birmingham had a hockey team in some minor league for a while, but it just never caught on in the deep south.

But the last time Alabama won the national championship in 1992 you could've heard me screaming a mile away.

6. I cried for Gibson's homer
We weren't supposed to have a chance in heaven, hell or earth against Oakland, and it was just... perfect. It was "The Natural."

23. Gibson's homer....
The day before the game where Gibson hit that homer I had gotten a new puppy from the people who lived in the apartment below me. I was stumped trying to think of a good name....and then Kirk hit that homer. And that's how I named my puppy Gibson. He was a great friend.

Most ex-players..high school and especially college athletes, get very emotional because they have actually "Been there.Done That".

And some here, in the DU Jr. High have actually told me, "I played in college....blah,blah, and I don't get emotional..." My response has always been. "You weren't much of a team mate if you didn't leave it all out there & can't recall those moments"

My two cents...Viva La Q-5 !!!:patriot:

10. 1974
When Kenny Stabler's desperate shot put pass to Clarence Davis ended the Dolphins' 2 year run as champions.

Csonka, Kiick and Warfield were lame ducks headed to the WFL so it was obviously the end of the great years.

12. Yup
My guy coaches HS football. They lost the game that would have put them into the superbowl. They both won and then lost it in the last minute of the game. It was crushing. We all cried. Coaches, players, fans.... (before my guy started coaching there it was an awful team, catholic school, poor city, etc etc)

They went on to win the following year though and that was a fantastic feeling.

And I cried Monday night when The Ravens caught that Hail Mary pass just short of the goal with no time on the clock left. What a crazy, exciting, scary game that was.

Those were HAPPY tears though!

GO PATS!

24. Heh...no
He used to coach St Mary's in Lynn and now he's at Chelsea High.

Feehan made the Superbowl vs Walpole (my home town) this year. 26-20 Feehan.

The Bowl games were cool this year. Gillete hosted all but one division.

Where did you move to from here?

18. No - I've flung the remote across the room before and stormed out of the room to my regret
Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 10:24 AM by NewJeffCT
but never cried.

Real story - my school, the University of Connecticut in the Spring of 1990 had always been an also-ran in Big East basketball and on the national scene. A good year was when they made the NIT.

So, in the 89-90 season, they finally exploded into the national rankings, and tied for the Big East regular season title with perennial powers Georgetown & Syracuse and won the Big East tournament title. They were a #1 seed in the East in the NCAA tourney.

They easily won their first two games, against BU and Cal.

So, in the eastern region semis, they were paired up against Clemson and their Duo of Doom inside. UConn again ran out to a big lead and were up 17 or 18 early in the second half. However, they took the air out of the ball and slowly let Clemson back in the game.

Clemson finally took a 1 point lead with 1 second left on the clock. At that point, I was so pissed that UConn took the air out of the ball and lost the game, I flung the remote and stormed out of the room.

Since I was so glued to the TV set for the whole game, I went to the bathroom and as I was washing my hands, I heard screaming from the basement. I figured maybe my family was either screaming at a missed foul, or that UConn had made a free throw and tied the game up... much to my chagrin, UConn forward Scott Burrell had tossed the ball almost the length of the court to guard Tate George who turned and sank a 17 foot jumper to win the game in one of the greatest buzzer beaters in NCAA history. (I still remember the newspaper, "It's Late, It's Tate, It's Great")

I missed it live.

Of course, two days later, they lost to Duke on a similar buzzer beater by Christian Laettner...

21. OF course. I'm a Sox fan.
Strangely enough, I think my low point came in 2004, right after the Sox were walloped in game 3 of the ALCS.

We all know what happened next. Finally, there was a happy ending.

22. yes. Broncos fan - '86,'87; I think I was numb in '89
and then I cried again when we won in '97. and then I did a happy dance in the streets! and '98 was just a bonus.

I don't know that I'll ever cry over the Broncos again. as long as I got to see them win, I just might be happy for life!

26. I'm from Cleveland.
Sports heartbreak is as normal as breathing. If it's a Cleveland team, count on them to let you down. The last time we won a title in ANYthing was 1964. We're talking the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, people. NO 3-sport city in America has suffered more than we have; not even you, Seattle (Sonics, 1979) or Philadelphia (Sixers, 1983).

The crying's going to be done when they actually WIN something. You cry when they lose, then you haven't been here long enough.

The '69 Cubs merely warped me for life but because of '84 I always hold back a little in my support so I don't get burned too badly again.

30. Super Bowl 5
I was nine. At the time, the Cowboys were called "next year's champions." Jim O'Brian kicked the game winning field goal, and Cowboy defensive tackle Bob Lilly threw his helmet 50 yards down the field. It was like a punch in the gut. I went out to the back yard and sobbed.

However, the Cowboys were able to get the monkey off their back the following year in Super Bowl 6, beating the Dolphins 24 to 3. A heavy weight had been lifted off the shoulders of the Cowboys, their fans, and the city of Dallas. It is still my favorite Cowboy moment.

38. Actually, it was 29
The next year Griese knew better. He passed 8 times the entire game. Then 11 in the following Super Bowl.

Now that was football. We're coming straight at you and stop it if you can. Failed only twice in 34 games in '72 and '73.
