I just can't do it
I can't allow others to send me private messages.

I'm sorry. There are people who probably want to send me things... people I promised would be able to reach me here. I'm so sorry... but I just can't.

If the admins or mods have been watching what I've been doing the past 20 minutes, I'm sure they think I've completely lost my mind. Well, I think I have too. I've changed my options on DU back and forth at least 10 times in the past few minutes.

I'm sorry... but I just can't open up myself to any more pain.

1. If someone is sending you ugly private messages, alert on them.
Admin will see them and take the appropriate action.

As Midlo said, if somebody is sending abusive messages then alert on them. The admins would much rather you do that than anything else. Or if it is just that you don't want to hear from certain people, put them on ignore! I always tried to tell somebody else this too. You are in control. You don't have to let anybody talk to you if you don't want them. Why ignore everybody because of a few people?

6. I know you are smart... and I know you are logical...
and, it seems, I am the opposite of all that.

Without getting into all the history, I'm somewhat damaged, for lack of a better expression, from past experiences on DU. It is actually a source of anxiety for me to leave that option open. It's not any one person. Well, it was the ones that passed around my PM's, at one time...those two. Then it got worse.

It would be impossible to explain it all...maybe I should try... I don't know...

I just can't do it any more.

It's taken a huge toll on me.

Obviously I'm not aware of everything that's been going on.

If you've had negative experiences with PMs specifically, then it makes complete sense to want to turn the option off. I can't fault you for that at all.

If you want to explain it, feel free to contact me on MySpace. You certainly don't have to for my benefit, but if you want to vent, you know where to find me. ;)
