13. So, you won't be juicing them?
That's a lot to eat by yourself.

I just bought o.j.

We'd finished up the navel juice I squoze. I'm buying oranges next time. The work is worth it.

12. What do you -DO- with 20 lbs of naval oranges?
I'm asking because mah Sweetie came home from work with 20 lbs
of them the other day- a co-worker's kid was having a band
fundrasier or some such...

So now I've got 20 pounds of oranges I need to use up before they go bad,
and I'm looking for ways to do it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

14. I'm going to be eating mine within the next couple of days
You can eat them, juice them, make preserves, make a tart, make candied orange peels, etc.

16. No way can I eat that many oranges....
...but the "preserves" idea really strikes a chord!

I've kinda got a tiny "cult following" amongst my circle of friends
for some of my offbeat recipes. (5 or 10 people, tops...)

Most especially, my recipes that put habeñero peppers in new and exciting places.
I can't make my "sweet-n-sour red hot fruit compote" often enough for them.

I've got four small habañero bushes spending the winter in my living room,
-AND- I've been getting into "canning" again over the last year or so.

So maybe a hot-n-spicy variation on a traditional English Marmalade could let
me kill THREE birds with one stone? I've got too many fresh peppers, too many
naval oranges, and too many folks expecting presents on the 25th.

A nice big batch of "Dick's Spicy Xmas Marmalade™" could cut my "Christmas List"
by 25% in one afternoon!

Thank you so much for the idea! It's a GREAT one- I can feel it already!

15. Jiuce them, fill milk jugs
leave a little room for expansion when it freezes, and stash them. Once they're juiced, it doesn't last long. SO good...

18. That was my first thought as well. (My ONLY thought in 3 days, to be honest.)
But our freezer is usually pretty full,
and Sweetie isn't a big fan of the OJ.

See my post above- I think I'm gonna make
some very special marmalade and distribute
it for Christmas presents.

26. They are pricy here too
Usually when it's orange season here, I can find them for 10 lbs for $1, but the cheapest I can find is 3 lbs. for $1 :(

22. navel oranges do no have seeds
They were a genetic mutation way back when. So the only way to get new navel orange trees it to start one from a cutting. Thus, the trees of today are genetically similar to the first navel orange tree that was ever found.
