Does anybody know of software for backing up to an external hard drive?
I just got a Western Digital MyBook Essential edition (which does not include backup software- and I can't find any on their website). Preferably free or cheap. What I want to do is schedule automatic backups for photos, music, data, etc.

This was my Christmas present from my Dad. And not the one I wanted: no software and the thing is huge. What I had in mind was one of those small, portable hard drives that run on USB. Now I have no clue how to use this one. With software it would have been easy.

1. This one fucking sucks. I hope my dad kept the receipt
I try to move The My documents folder and it says it's transferring but nothing ever shows up. WTF? Worst present ever.

2. I have a MyBook
can't remember what edition it is... but it came with their software. I never got the software to work!! I just plug it in and move stuff manually -- in that capacity it seems to work fine.

Sorry about your trouble!

5. Well I guess it's just as well I don't have it then.
It looks like I will have to shell out some money for. That's okay- if it works better than doing it by hand it will be worth it.

4. Yes I am thinking that is the best option
The process needs to be as simple as possible in order for it to get done. I will not remember to do it on my own. I did figure out that stuff was not showing up earlier because the drive was formatted in FAT32, while my computer is NTSC so I reformatted and they now show up.
