An estrogen-surge angry rant about primaries and election day and why my vote doesn't count
I probably won't vote in the WI primary because the race is already over at that point and my fucking vote no longer matters. If I still lived in the state of my birth, Iowa, then I'd have a say. I still wouldn't think it's fair that my vote would then be worth something when other, later, primary votes aren't. I'm so fucking sick of the fucking political system that allows this. Maybe I *should* move back to Iowa so that I'd get an actual say in the primaries and since WI goes blue most of the time and Iowa is borderline maybe I'd actually make a fucking difference there as well. I HATE that I live in a fucking "democracy" where a vote in a solidly blue state counts less than a vote in a swing state like Ohio or Florida. I want us all to have the same voice. I want us to get rid of fucking electoral colleges and staggered primaries. I want us to all vote on a the same day primary so that I can vote for who I really want to vote for instead of just who is left in the race at that point. I want us all to get our 1 vote on a nationwide basis with the same fucking voting registration laws on a NATIONWIDE basis with the same requirements for voting, the same mechanism of voting (no fucking Diebold machines that's for sure), the same requirements for registration (so that they're not purging registered voters in Democratic areas, so that a felon in one state gets a vote while a felon in another state doesn't) so that every fucking person in this fucking country gets their fucking vote counted with exactly the same weight as every other fucking person. Let the popular vote decide, let it all be at the same time with no fucking pollsters telling the folks on the West coast that the voters on the East coast have already decided. No more media manipulation of exit polls, no more influencing people to get out or stay home based on the performance in the rest of the country. One single fucking equal election for all of us where all our votes hold the exact same fucking value. I'm mad as hell, I've got a fiery case of peri-menopausal estrogen surging PMS making me in fucking tears as I write this rant but god damn it enough is enough. I want something in life that's fair and equal to everyone and if nothing else in this democracy is the right to and value of each and every one of our votes should be EXACTLY the FUCKING same. The equal representation in the Senate and the distribution of the number of members of the House gives the little states their clout in the Congress and that should be enough to make sure that small states aren't trampled by big ones when it comes to rights. But for the presidency? We are NOT all equal and it's just not right.

And for god's sake can someone give a girl a hug, a shot of something strong and some chocolate?

2. Primary votes won't count for Democrats in Florida this time, either...
...thanks to our non-representative Democratic representatives deciding to work with Florida republicans in moving our primary date forward and the national Democratic party deciding the best way to handle them is to disenfranchise all Democratic voters in the state for the primary.

4. Join the club.
My votes in the general, and primary elections for prez have never made a difference.

This is America. The only thing that counts is the folding green.

5. Make yourself heard anyway!
I live in an extremely red state, so as far as the general election is concerned, I know my vote doesn't count per the whole electoral college thing. However, I'll vote anyway, because I want to have voice in the popular vote...ala Gore v. Bush. If there is a dispute, and even if it turns out badly (Gore v. Bush), at least I have a right to loudly bitch and complain for the next 4-8 years.

7. :) too caught up in the frenzy of the rant to even use proper spelling
the return key...well...kind of pointless with that particular rant as it was all one long disjointed run on sentence anyway. Sorry :)

9. Minnesota is in the same boat, and Kerry had the nomination sewed up
by the time our caucuses came around, but you know what? I and about 17% of other Minnesotans voted for Dennis Kucinich anyway.
