"Deck the Halls" - Yada Yada. So who else is not going to be able to visit family this Christmas?..
For various reasons, I'm not going to be able to travel to see my family this year. I'll probably end up having Christmas dinner at a restaurant or bar (I doubt I'll feel like cooking turkey & gravy for one, although I've done it before).

Anyone else in a similar situation?

just answering your question - yes, I'm in the same place but it doesn't bother me in the least - in fact, I volunteer to work Christmas Eve/Day so someone else can be with their family

6. I'm a single man, and all my friends (male & female) will be away with their families...
...while I'll be taking advantage of the shrimp special at Red Lobster.

Yeah, I know I'm feeling sorry for myself; but my Dad is ill & I don't know if I'm going to see him before he goes on the big vacation.

Happy Holidays! (end of sarcasm)

Thank you Heidi (seriously). You've always shown me your generous spirit. Sorry if my experience is a downer right now. I don't want to bring anyone down -- but the Lounge is a great source of support.

Sincerely to you & everyone here -- Happy Holidays.

we'll just make plans for a Christmas Eve rendevous in the Lounge, then, okay? You can tell me all about the shrimp special, and I'll regale you will a story or two about being a stranger in a strange land.

I may go Chinese Buffet (but I'm sure there will be shrimp ;) )

Are there Chinese buffets in Switzerland (might make you feel at home)?

13. Yeah, there are Chinese buffets here, but none nearby.
On the other hand, I just found a sushi takeout joint across the lake from us. Too bad I'm totally skeeved by the thought of eating raw fish. :spray:

We're going to be in the UK, visiting about 300 family members over a six day visit. Naturally, each person lives about as far away from the others as is mathematically possible, so most of our holiday will be spent in a car, driving all over creation. If we budget about 15 minutes for each visit, we might just do it.

I'd much rather be at home, with my feet up in front of a roaring TV.

you shouldn't diss your own company - get on www.anysoldier.com, request an address and write a letter to a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan. There are thousands of folk who cannot be home for Christmas and they are a lot worse of than we are.

20. I've been alone a long time but I am never lonely
the trick is to see what fortunes you do have...me, I have my health, I have food...I'm OK...I can help someone who isn't. Donate blood! 25 gallons for me in this area - that's a lot of folk I have helped. Stuff like that is simple but effective. :) Seriously though, get on Any Soldier - use their search function and you can find soldiers from your state - they LOVE hearing from home. :)

11. Probably going to spend it with the kittehs again...
...but there's lots worse stuff can happen than alone at Christmas...
and I've got room to talk here, cos I'm one of those dismal folk with depression AND seasonal affective disorder.

Rather have my own company than that of some of the extremely dysfunctional, unhappy-and-want-to-share-the-'love' family horror stories that people survive and post about...:hide:

15. The only family I spend Christmas with is my Aunt .
My father will be with my sister to give me a break.

I will be at the beach with friends at the beach house and our many dogs.

Looking forward to some beach time.

31. Beach time
for me as well. There's a small resort about 3 hours away if I take a bus and then a ferry to the island. It's more of a couples place, and I will be without my family for the first time.

But I need the sea for solitude and solace, and I wouldn't be fit company for anyone anyway.

Here's to peace on the beach.

:toast:
