I'd really appreciate it if someone who knows this would help me out. I know out of all you smart DUers out there, someone is bound to know it.

4. That's what I was wondering, about the verification part.
There is a big thing on Wiki, of all places, about it being a mis-translation and I was wondering what the right one really is.

5. If you want right answers you've come to the wrong place
In my state there's a site where you can have a chat session with a professional librarian and have them give correct answers to questions like that. You might want to see if there's a similar service where you live

I think the quote there was "don't let the bastards grind you down."

ETA: from wiki, here you go: "Nolite te bastardes carborundorum"

14. Nonetheless
I believe it was Atwood who repopularized the saying, so she gets the usage.

10. And you could also throw in "Orchides ejorum trahite; cordes et mentes veniant."
... Grab them by the balls; their hearts and minds will follow.

11. My father used to say that all the time!
He recited it as "Non Illegitimi carborundum" Literally "don't let the bastards GRIND you down."

I never learned Latin, but I learned enough to understand English Etymology, and it's helped me stutter by in romance languages.
