3. I usually find that I don't have to.
Being a guy with long hair makes me a bit of a curiosity in some situations, but I've always seemed to have some kind of subtle 'I'm not taking shit' aura about me which helps keep people from staring. Not sure how I project it, but it sure as hell helped when I was around my geek friends in school. In hindsight I probably should have backed off and let them learn how to deal with bullies on their own... but it's just so FUN to make a bully squirm... :P
