Tonight....I'm standing on the outside...
My face is pressed up against the window...

Inside, I see a huge party going on...

Groups of happy folks in colorful dress talking, laughing and eating...

The huge fireplace is lit with a roaring blaze...

The tables are laden with wonderful foods...

I am hungry...

And alone...

Why am I not allowed in?

Just thought I'd wax poetic about it for once...

Are you in LAX?

The landing was hand flown, but instrument approaches are the only option in weather like that. Fortunately, we have some great equipment, particularly on the plane I'm flying these days.

When I was a freshman in college, I hated it when my roommates were invited to parties but I wasn't.

Eventually I learned to - and please don't distort this - make my own fun.

Real life hugs are always the best. I had a rare & wonderful lingering RL hug earlier tonight.

The best part was knowing w/o talking -- just breathing together & letting it last as long as we wanted to (it's been a long time).

E-hugs sustain me through the rough times because they're always sincere. No one on DU gives you a  without meaning it. It's not as physically satisfying as a RL hug, but it always has a way of soothing the soul. :)

33. Solon...
We are in the greatest danger when we try to turn our emotions off.

Loneliness sucks.

I've been lonely much of my life' and I'll never get used to it. It's not the natural state of things; but it's part of life.

Some of the greatest lessons I've learned came through the loneliness of asserting the individual that I am.

You are also an individual (with a good heart, as well). Your emotions drive you (as mine do).

Don't push yourself to be something that is different from your nature -- simply let your nature out. Trust & allow yourself to be yourself.

Don't give a shit if you get criticized. Everyone gets criticized!

I'd rather get criticized for what I believe in, than for sucking up to whatever!!!

Dear Ms. Peggy, I've been feeling alittle blue myself. We don't need to feel this way. So, pull up a chair and sit and chat about whatever makes us happy, and chase the blues away.

Of course you could be feeling blue because you're standing out in the cold.

How about a nice glass of Peach and Cherry soft serve ice cream. It's sure to make you less hungry, although it doesn't make you warm inside.

41. Peggy,
I feel that way too, often. :(

With me, it's mostly because of all the stuff I can't do anymore. I find myself envying people who can do simple things like walk, and walk up and down stairs, and who can go out dancing while I sit at home.

But it passes. We all have the life we have, and that's what we have to deal with everyday.

Perspective is definitely important, but don't ever feel that your feelings aren't important just because someone else has some problems you don't have. Everyone's life is their own, and challenges can't always be ranked.

52. My Dear CaliforniaPeggy
I feel your pain, this Christmas is the worst.......................:hi:

"When fear is too terrible, when reality is too agonizing, we seek escape in manufactured danger, in the thrills and pleasures of pretending-in the amusement parks of our unamusing world. Here, in frantic pretending, Man finds escape and temporary peace, and goes home tired enough to sleep a short, deep sleep. But what happens here when night comes? When pretending ends, and reality begins?"
