I bought the ring, I had help of a friend of hers, and the girl at the jewelry store, to get her size.

it cost an arm and a leg and is a full carat immaculate diamond.

She has no idea, I hope.

I swore her friend to secrecy.

Is this a good xmas gift? A ring and a romantic trip skiing?

I will get her other gifts as well. But this is the big one...

Mr MB made the moment soooo romantic - he blindfolded me, drove me to a hotel on the beach where he had been before he picked me up and set up the whole room full of flowers and candles - read a poem in french - the whole nine yards my friend.

There were a few good things there... but for the most part I just consider it a learning experience. I.E., now I know to avoid the half-crazy ones. Next time I'm either going for someone who is completely sane or completely crazy. :)

Get a moissanite pinky ring or earring or whatever.

I prefer fewer frills. Most jewelry I've ever had was a very small and subtle silver chain with a small Thoth pendant on it.

Although, I'm with Sugar Smack about the diamonds, I hope you will both be very happy.

i had a female friend help me pick out a diamond when i proposed to mrs pirate. she asked me to return it a couple of days later for a setting she liked better.

the settings are custom made, and it is platinum. The diamond is a "FL" 1 carat in an "American Standard" cut.

But how I got the ring in her size is quite a story.

I wanted her to be able to wear it when she got it, which meant I would need the sizing. So, I invited one of her friends to lunch, swore her to secrecy, and laid out my plan to get her ring size which I came up with, with the help of the girl at the jewelry store.

it included sending her out shopping with the friend, in which they would just happen to browse through the store, and try on rings, and the girl at the jewelry store would get her size in the process.

The shopping trip already cost me some dough, lol. But it fulfilled its purpose. The plan worked, the friend got her to the store, and the girl working there got her size, and sent it to the ring maker guy that makes them all locally, and by hand.

I also was told the diamonds are not from africa and are not connected to what is going on in africa.

Platinum is the best setting for a diamond. It is the color of pure untarnished silver and never looks yellow, as white gold sometimes can. The diamond you picked sounds perfect. I'm so happy for you.
