I am deeply touched by the incredible generosity of the members of this website. So far, 81 DUers have donated $5,888 to America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network. I want to thank everyone who has donated so far, and I especially want to thank Midlodemocrat for generously funding a $1000 match earlier this week. Now I would like to announce our second challenge match:

DUer brooklynite has offered $5000 to fund a new 1-for-1 match for donations made during the next seven days. If you donate before midday on Friday, December 28, brooklynite will match your donation. Here is your chance to DOUBLE the value of your donation!

This new $5000 1-for-1 match will only be available until midday Friday, December 28. If during that time DUers donate more than $5000, only the first $5000 in donations will be matched. If DUers donate less than $5000, the match will be equal to the total amount donated. Due to the Christmas holiday, we will not receive any progress reports from America's Second Harvest until December 27, so unfortunately we will not know how we're doing until then. We will not know if we qualify for the entire $5000 match until we receive our daily update on December 28.

$$ well spent! My somewhat humble donation is the
best Holiday gift I've given in a long time. Due
to the demands of my job, I can't give time to those
of us less fortunate. So, money is all I have to give.

(Deity), how I wish I had the time to volunteer to work
wherever the need is. Sending money with a few mouse
clicks feels good, but nothing like being in the trenches.
