I've got a project for a turquoise and coral bracelet, pendant, earrings, and ring with tomorrow for a deadline. My supplies were late getting here from Gallop, so I started late to begin with. Last night and today I cut the stones and have almost completed the earrings, and ring. I was reaching across my bench to the pickle pot and my torch stand caught on my hoodie sleeve. It fell landing on my torch hose, and all I could hear was gas spewing. At first I did not know which line was spewing gas, and could not find the tank wrench sitting right in front of me. I have a voltive candle burning on my bench to light my torch. I started to panic because I could not shut my tank, so I blew the candle out and finally found the wrench and shut my acetylene tank off. It was my oxygen hose that got nicked.
I was low on gas to begin with but had enough to finish with my little torch. Now I have to use my old torch which uses 3-4 time the volume of gas, and is kind of like doing surgery with a sledge hammer, after using a jeweler's torch. I will continue till I run out, and luckily there is one welding supply house open tomorrow at 8am so I can get more gas before Xmas. The project is for a friend and they celebrate the Solstice so the present has to be done tomorrow. I did not want to take the project, and even told my friend that I would have to charge him full price and he said yes, D'oh!
I've been paid 50% of the total due so there is no going back. I might have to miss the So Cal meet up tomorrow to get done.
Now back to my bench.
