Any former Battletech junkies out there?
There are times when I miss sitting at a massive mountain range carved out of styrofoam and painted to simulate terrain and watching as our Mech's stomp all over the range and blast the hell out of each other.

My favorite memory was when a Battlemaster and a Stalker went head-on at a little comics mini-convention. Yes, I was in the Stalker, and yes, I actually won the duel. By kicking the Battlemaster in the head.

2. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I'm a geek...
I grew up as a POOR geek. So when we wanted to play RPGs, we just made our own. :P

3. Does Playing the MechWarrior PC games count?
Fond teenage memories of playing MechWarrior 2

Enemy 'Mech... Destroyed.

I was always disappointed that they never did an Aerotech version of those games. That would have kicked all sorts of ass.

4. I played regularly waaay back in HS
Let's see...that's about 14 years ago when I graduated.

I played routinely with a friend. I think my record against him was something like 52-0, although many of those were via sheer blind luck. Most games were played with the little cardboard Mechs on the flat boards, we only rarely got around to digging out some lead painted models.

That was a fun tactical game. I always thought the Battlemaster was overrated.

5. My signature Mech was the Griffin
It was the first Mech I ever tried, and it just happened to be the Mech that I felt the most comfortable with. I enjoyed playing with a lot of different models, but I always came back to the Griffin.

Everyone in our group used lead miniatures, partially because a lot of us also chipped in to buy the styrofoam and paint that eventually became our terrain. My brother once went hog-wild with an Atlas miniature and customized it to look like Elvis, complete with jumpsuit, hairdo, microphone, the works. Unfortunately, that miniature (along with many others) was stolen at a convention, never to be seen again - I was so proud of the Elvis Atlas.
