1. my hair is very curly
chemical straightening is a bad idea, it damages the hair and makes it feel like straw....use a flat iron instead, have to do it every day, and it still damages the hair, but not quite as badly.

2. Nope. Thought about it in my youthful past, but just made peace with it instead
Me and my hair are almost friends :)

3. It depends on the type of hair you have
Most curly hair is rather fragile. The straightening process is like a reverse perm. It created a head full of frizz for me.

4. I have natural curly hair
and I use a curling Iron EVERYDAY to control the curls.
I style it
I am going to start to grow my hair long....
why?? I have no clue, something different....
I'm afraid of the curls that will come of it....

6. Actually, it's easier to control the curl with longer hair
It weighs it down and straightens it some.

I'm sure you'd look great with long hair! Go for it!

5. yes, and bad idea
find a cutter who understands curly hair, stress that getting it 'even' isn't the goal but rather cut it with the curl so it's shaped

I did relax mine a couple times when it was longer but it looked stupid

7. I guess I just don't want to pay 80 bucks
to have someone clip 2 inches off the ends (which I can do myself).

I really hate my hair. I can't do ANYTHING with it. :(

8. here's how I cut mine myself
I'd cut a line of bangs at my eyebrows, then pull up all the hair a section at a time and cut it even with that line working from front to back

worked great! helps to have someone to help with the back though.....

9. I think bangs might not look bad
but since my hair's so frizzy, it'll just stick out. :(

11. Why do you want to staighten it?
My sister has beautiful, curly, long hair and she flattens it with an iron everyday. I want to smack her!

13. I used to iron mine...with an iron,,,on an ironing board.
then I tried a straightener. It ruined my hair. Be yourself, that's my advice.

16. All I have to do to straighten my hair...
is go to a very dry, low humidity place..of course when it rains or I am in a humid place that also means I am going to have a frizz fest....

than an hour or so. My hair isn't all that curly.

19. I did it once.
It was very coarse afterward and broke off, causing it to appear to be frizzier than before.

Take a look at this forum, post a few times and ask some questions. There is bound to be someone there who has done nearly anything and everything you've thought of doing to your hair. And they also have great advice on how to take care of various forms of curly or wavy hair.

25. You'll get lost on that forum.
I stuck around for a few days, reading and rereading every bit of info there.

I've become so tired of finding stylists who can properly cut my curly hair that I'm seriously thinking of going to a beauty school this fall. I figure if I have a hard time finding someone than others do too-instant customer base.

21. My daughter did
even after the procedure and using a flat iron daily she'd still end up with waves by mid-day. The half-assed straightening only lasted about a month and it left her hair really fried. She finally gave up on the notion and got a good layered cut and the result is more manageable hair and it looks really cute. I say don't fight the curl, embrace it and learn to work with it and remember that all of us girls with yucky hair are totally envious of your lovely locks.

22. XemaSab, from the photos you've posted, you have _beautiful_ hair.
Like you, I have quite curly, strawberry-blonde to reddish hair, but I don't straighten it anymore. When I've had my hair chemically straightened, the color changed and my hair became brittle and prone to breaking.

Is the chemical straightening process different, and more kind to one's hair, than it was 10 to 15 years ago? If not, it's probably not a good idea.

23. People say they like it
but they don't have to deal with it every day.

It takes like, an hour for it to be presentable, so I usually just pull it back and stick it under a hat. :(

26. It hasn't changed that much.
It's still pretty harsh and not recommended.

At least some stylists are now learning to work with the curl instead of fighting it. I just wish they would all learn to work with it.

27. Years ago, I don't remember why I did it
It only lasted maybe four weeks or so. My hair used to be very curly, but it has kind of relaxed itself over the years

28. My hair is very wavy, gets frizzy with the rain
I had it straightened once. It made it very limp. I have red hair. I use a blow dryer and straightening gel on the bangs and curl cream on the rest. Straightening iron on the next day.

My hair is the bane of my life. I hate my hair.
