19. He was the hip, young parking lot attendant on 77 Sunset Strip
Kookie, Kookie, (Lend Me Your Comb)
Sung by Edward Byrnes (Kookie) & Connie Stevens

Connie: Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb.
Kookie, Kookie?
Edward: Well now, let's take it from the top & grab some wheels & on the way we'll talk about some cuckoo deals.
Connie:: But Kookie, Kookie, lend me your comb.
Kookie, Kookie?
Edward: Now you're on the way, miss, & I'm readin' you just fine. Don't cut out of here till we get on Cloud 9.
Connie: But Kookie?
Edward: I've got smog in my noggin ever since you made the scene
Connie: You're the utmost!
Edward: If you ever tool me out...dead, I'm the saddest, like a brain
Connie: The very utmost. Kookie, lend me your comb. Kookie, Kookie?
Edward: Man, I got my bruise lighters in my flapsy-colored pen You're gonna send me to that planet called... you know it, baby, the end!

28. Well, you should also know the best cookie in the world was....
A persimmon-raisin-molasses cookie made by my grandmother made back in the fifties. They were wicked good and beat my next favorite cookie, the ranger cookie, by a country mile. I was never able to capture the receipt from her, but I fond memories helping Grandma cut and scoop all the persimmons pulp into a measuring cups.

30. Yeah, but look who Cookie Lavagetto played *for*
Then coached for another 16 years.

And who could ever forget...

1947: It was the bottom of the ninth inning at Ebbets Field on 3 October with the Yanks leading 2 to 1 behind Bill Bevens who was only one out away from the first ever World Series no-hitter. Both managers turned to their benches. After getting the leadoff batter on a long fly, Bevens, who had already given up eight walks, walked Carl Furillo, who was replaced by pinch runner Al Gionfriddo. After Bevens got the second out on a pop foul, with Reiser at the plate, Gionfriddo stole second. Yankee manager Bucky Harris decided Reiser should be walked. The Dodger manager, Burt Shotton, then sent in Eddie Miksis to run for Reiser, who had hurt his ankle the day before, and called on Lavagetto to bat for Stanky. It was a curous choice. Lavagetto, who was 34 years old and clearly at the end of his career, had batted only 82 times during the season and had only one extra base hit (see above) to show for it. He swung at the first pitch and missed. Dodgers fans moaned for the last time that day. Bevens' next pitch came in high and outside and entered history the same way, following a trajectory just inside the right field line that took it to the wall over the head of Yankee right fielder Tommy Henrich, who misjudged the bounce. The ball caromed off the heel of his glove and dribbled away as Gionfriddo and Miksis sped around the bases. By the time the relay throws reached the plate, both runners had scored and the game was over, a 3-2 Dodger victory.

He was one of the first ballplayers to enlist. Joined the Navy and was an aviation machinist's mate 1C in the PTO, so I guess he was on an aircraft carrier.

(It's a macaroon, but there's no reason you can't add any nut you like to it.)

The cool part is that they're made on the stove-top in a fry-pan & spooned onto wax paper to harden.

No kidding. After all that hand-wringing about her "baking cookies" remark back in 1992, it turns out she has an excellent chocolate chip cookie recipe.

And yes, homemade is a definite plus. At least I'll know the candidates are serious.

31. I got to thinking about this
because, over the holidays I baked about a dozen different kinds of cookies and I think that out of all of them, the one that everyone liked the best (even my youngest) was a cookie that I haven't done in 20 years...a molassas cookie that I had to bake the day after Thanksgiving because it has to sit for 4-6 weeks before it's ready to eat. Smells like ginger snaps at first and then mellows over time.

20. White Chocolate Cherry Chunk Cookies
This cookie is AWESOME. I tried this recipe the first time last year--made some for my son's birthday last year, and the cookies were a huge hit...now everyone in my family begs me to make them. And his friends, when they visit.

1 stick butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup chopped macadamia nuts
1/2 cup candied cherries
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chunks

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, with electric mixer, cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until just combined. Set aside.

Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add milk to the butter mixture and then add the flour mixture. Mix until just combined. Batter should be stiff.

In another bowl, combine nuts, cherries, and white chocolate. Then add to batter, stirring only to blend. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake for approximately 11 to 13 minutes. Cool on wire rack.

(If you guessed that it's a Paula Deen recipe, you'd be correct.)

40. Damn, I almost forgot my number 1 all time fave "Cookie"
Warning:
Blatant plug for an excellent punk/country/rock band named "COOKIE" (of course).

http://www.cookiefactory.com/listen.htm

Try "Mr. President" for a bit of pure punk, (inspirational if you pay attention to the lyrics).
Then try "Black and Blue for You" if you want to hear the singer's story, one which sadly, is repeated far far too often. (She keeps it light even though I am sure she bears the scars)

Hell, I love all the songs! Of the many many local artists I have had the honor to have worked with, COOKIE has been one of my faves, their discs are my treasures.

Well it is one of the best Cookies in the world...to me that is.
