There had to be a first ever chicken.
This chicken's parents were not chickens.
On the evolution scale, they were close to being chickens but they were not THE first chicken.
Therefore they were something else, call them proto-chickens if you like.
That first chicken had to come from somewhere.
It came from the egg of the proto-chickens.
The first chicken egg.
Which hatched into the first chicken.
