So Lounge, how do you deal with tremendous frustration
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 12:51 PM by Zornhau
along with a fair helping of disappointment? It's been a shitty couple days and I can't seem to find a good way to deal with it.

Any suggestions?

6. if you want to pm me. else my advice is to speak to a professional.
if you have multiple different thing goign on, its best to have a professional hear you out. a trained listener is always better than a friend imo.

7. You too, eh?
This has been a rough couple of weeks for me. So far I've attempted the following with little to no success:

1. clean while listening to my iPod (my attempt at distracting myself)
2. drink a few extra glasses of wine in the evening (my attempt at escapism but the hangover wasn't worth it)
3. getting overly involved in my friend's life (her dog just died so I'm planning a memorial service for her)
4. exercise (normally this works, but it hasn't this time)
5. go to the movies (escapism again, but only for a couple of hours)
6. unleash my internal drill sergeant and tell myself to "get the hell over it already" (just made me feel worse)
7. cognitive behavioral therapy. Doing CBT helped me realize that I'm just not ready to release the anger and frustration yet because my feelings have been genuinely hurt by people I love. Once I realized I wasn't ready to forgive yet, I understood why steps 1-6 haven't worked.

Sometimes the feelings just have to roll over you for a while before you can move on. PM me if you want to talk about it.

20. ouch!
I'm so sorry to hear that. I highly recommend cognitive behavioral therapy then because it can be self paced and it helps very quickly. If life feels too overwhelming though, talk to a professional.

A rough overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behavioral_therapy

Book recommendation: Feeling Good by David Burns http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-Therapy-Revised-Updated/dp/0380810336/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1198866055&sr=1-1

25. Video games?
Something action-packed, maybe, to distract you?

How about a book? A Clive Cussler book about Dirk Pitt kicking some evil corporate ass is good escapism. I would recommend "Shock Wave" to start with.

Stephen Kings "Dark Tower" heptalogy is also very engrossing.

How about a puzzle?

29. I pretty much deal w/ everything by eating
but then I have to work out, clean my house, and get back to life.

So, I guess in the end, it's remembering that the sun still rises and life goes on.

(and yeah, that can be part of the frustration too)

Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 02:41 PM by abq e streeter
Don't Back Down by Tom Petty, Badlands by Springsteen, Get Up Stand Up by Bob Marley, and more Clash songs than I can list here ...And I sing along , also LOUD. Also exercising helps. And this may sound corny to you and other DUers, but I say prayers of gratitude, even when I feel like I'm faking it. I've been having a pretty rough go of it myself lately, and I hope things start working out better for you soon.

I try to make a mental list of all the ways that my life is good beyond the current crap making it seem shitty. It doesn't always work, but it usually helps me get through the difficult spells.
