For me, it showed the real south (but maybe it just showed the Shenandoah). Anyway, I couldn't decide from your list.

11. All the King's Men -- possibly takes the cake for greatest Southern AND greatest political movie.
The original, mind you, not the 2006 remake -- though that one's OK.

12. Too many good ones there to really choose
I went with A Streetcar Named Desire because of the high quality of the play as a great work of literature and the excellent acting in the film adaptation (the Brando version).

I also have to mention another favorite film of mine set in the south named Conrack. Directed by Martin Ritt and starring Jon Voigt, it's about a young, white teacher assigned to teach at an isolated island off the coast of South Carolina populated mostly by poor southern black families. To me, it's an unforgettable film.
