It's raining buckets outside right now
About 1:45 in northern Cal. Heck, I gotta wait for the bus in that stuff. If this keeps up like the forecasters say, we should have a nice little river overflowing action by Saturday.

1. Where are you at?
I'm in Folsom. The sky is really dark and threatening, but no rain yet.

2. We are supposed to get like 3-5 inches down here (Orange County)
over the next few days. Has not started raining yet.

I really feel for all those people whose homes were saved from fire in the canyons, only to have to sandbag and put up hay bales to keep the mud away.

I am happy happy happy to be a flatlander.

5. I thought the No Cal weather boys revised it a bit saying...
it will be close, but mostly contained. They still expect heavy winds and warn us of possible local power outages (from falling tree limbs) on Friday. Either way, I got wood stacked on the front porch ready for the stove.

In my neck of the woods the power goes out if someone spits.

11. Yeah, me too
I lived in Vermont for 38 years. We had wind, rain, snow, ice, sleet, hail and lightning. The longest I ever remember the power being out was 3 days in the early 70's during a horrible blizzard. Other than that, it was pretty rare to lose it for any length of time.

Out here, it rains, the power goes out. And STAYS out for a week at a stretch. We were without power for a week and a half a couple of years ago and the weather just wasn't that bad. I don't get it. :wtf:

33. I agree with you
I've lived in much more primitive areas and never lost power as often as I do here. Off for 12 hours today. I have to say, though, that PG&E get things up and running fairly quickly. It was out in four different areas today. We were the last to get it back.

We built one when we built our house, and have used it several times!

It runs on natural gas...

Which is also why I don't have a wood-burning stove, which I have been bitching about for 24 years.

13. Every time our lights blink....
we know someone down the line lost their power. All in all, the PG&E boys are pretty damn good at getting the power back up and running when it's truly crappy outside. My hat's off to those boys!

They are telling us as much as 8" in some of the highest mountains, and 45 mph winds, with 75 mph winds in the upper peaks...

Got the fireplace cracklin'...

8. Well...no need to hang on quite as tight as I thought...
NorCal estimates are now for winds 30-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, and rain in excess of 3"...

9. At least its not raining buckets inside
It just started here in the Santa Cruz mountains. They're talking high winds - up to 60 mph - and as much as 4 to 6 inches of rain in the next 24 hours.

Should be interesting.

12. Yeah, it looks just fucking be-yoo-tiful outside.
I have to run out to Elk Grove to do some shopping (the pet food store out there is enough cheaper to be worth the drive,) and I'm definitely putting that off for another night. You wouldn't catch me dead on the 99 in this crap.

14. The rain has started.
It's dark as sin outside, but no wind yet. As soon as I get home, I'd better go move some wood to the pile next to the door just to be safe.

16. Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven.
Don't you know each cloud contains
Pennies from heaven.
You'll find yor fortune falling
All over town.
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down.
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers.
If you want the things you love
You must have showers.
So when you hear it thunder
Don't run under a tree.
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

28. KRON newsies are creamin' their raincoats
They've got four or five reporters stationed in Strategic Weather Event Venues. One showed video taken from her car with the voiceover, "The first drops began to fall about 11:45 a.m." Cut to a close-up of raindrops on the windshield.

:wow:

Another is in downtown Napa, where "This area was wiped out two years ago. We'll tell you what they're doing now."

:wow:

Fourteen minutes in and they've done nothing but weather. I WANNA KNOW WHAT'S GOIN' ON IN IOWA!!!11 :grr:
