1. I think they overreacted.
Certainly those girls were being, shall we say, culturally insensitive, but they don't sound like actual bigots.

The people in this story who really tick me off are the school administrators. Unless they're completely ignoring the students outside of class, there's no way they wouldn't have known what was going on. But instead of taking steps to deal with the matter early on (i.e. the responsible thing to do), they chose to wait until it escalated into violence, then rush to make an example of whichever side looked the guiltiest.

2. good
I mean, if it were a taunt that happened once, that would be one thing. But they named their volleyball team "World Wide White Pride" fercrisake. And I mean, is it such a bad thing that they were expelled? I mean the girls got attacked, at very least it will get them away from the attacks. I am interested to know what the punishment was for the black girls. The article didn't mention them. I think that I would have done something similar, to be honest. I don't have that bad a temper, but I'd have kicked the crap out of Steph and "Amy" and their friends.

There's a line, dammit.

5. Good on them
Stephanie and her friends crossed the line. The transfer seems to be for their safety, too... there were threats on her life.

Also:

One of Stephanie's teachers said she was a good, conscientious student who was never in trouble. Amy boasted the highest average in her grade.

So, they're not inherently evil people... that doesn't change the fact that they need to be removed from that environment. And what does how good 'Amy's grades are have to do with the situation?

"All I want is to be reinstated at that school," Stephanie said. "It broke my heart to leave my teachers."

I'm sure it broke the other student's hearts when you called them n*****s, too. Sorry, no sympathy.
