Well, I guess I should've gotten the flu shot after all.

I've been sick since Christmas. Not just slightly ill or flu-ish. Flat on my back in bed, can't even move sick. At first I thought it was a bit too much Christmas cheer, but no such luck. It didn't go away. Headache, sore throat, cough (which makes the headache and sore throat even worse), stuffed-up nose, muscle aches, fever, nausea, and to top it all off I've had pinkeye for the past 4 days. (That's the pits, because I HATE HATE HATE wearing my glasses but of course the contacts are off limits till my eyes clear up.) Yesterday was the first day I was really up and out of a horizontal position, and I had to go to work because there was a bunch of 2007 year-end bookkeeping to do and a backlog of appointments to see (and since I am a solo veterinarian, my clinic can't operate without me there). I'm still not back to health, though, and I plan to spend this weekend doing nothing at all and hoping that this pestilence finally goes away.

Of course, Mr. Sleepyhead has been patting himself on the back for having gotten a flu shot, and he feels fine. All I have heard from him is "You should have gotten a flu shot" (Imagine that in a constant singsong voice - I may have to glue his mouth shut tonight while he sleeps). The last time I got a flu shot was in 1976, during the swine flu epidemic when President Ford told us all to get inoculated, and I got very sick from the shot. I vowed never again to get vaccinated or to ever listen to a Republican again. But after this experience, I will be first in line next year for my shot. I will still refuse to listen to Republicans.
